I was wondering how best to keep precision tips clean between sessions. Are these little(expensive) tips 1-use-only?
I picked up a 6-pack of various tips made by Squadron and like the control they provide…During my last building session I used 1 med. tip for liquid cement and 1 med. for CA…That gives me NO med tips, as they clogged up & I chucked 'em…
I like them, but I don’t want to keep shelling out $3 everytime I start a building session…
I posted a similar question on the Tools forum just a few days ago concerning Touch-n-Flow Applicators and got the tip to blow air through when done. Yet, I also use a couple of other precision applicators like your squadron ones and I dip them in Nail Polish remover (Acetone). It cleans up the applicator slick as a whistle. You can purchase this in any makeup section of your local drug and grocery store. I find nail polish remover handy for a number of uses such as removing excess putty when filling seams. I hope that helps HSteve. I hope to see some of your work. JOERIX
P.S. Where abouts in Colo. are ya as I’m just across the border in Moab, Ut.
I’m right smack dab in the middle of Denver. I have spent many beautiful, hot days, and a few bone-chilling nights in Moab doing some hiking. Love the area, confused with Utah liquor laws[?]. If you enjoy hiking, check out the Weminuche wilderness area just ouside of Durango…Awesome scenery…
Yeah HSteve I quite agree. Then there is the flip side and that being the disposable stuff one can find to utililize for our hobby i.e. plastic lids, foil (seat harnesses), containers for storage and mixing. I guess you might say one can be a “Green Modeler” with a little creativity and dumpster diving. Also, to help alleviate the hit to my wallet I find allsorts of useful tools and gadgets in the beauty section of the drug/grocery store, at thrift stores and garage sales (namely unbuilt kits) and craft stores. That is one of the wonderful things I enjoy about the hobby and the fellow modelers is the seemingly endless improvization, creativity and outside the box thinking shown. JOE RIX
One cool item I spied at my the LHS was their brand of sanding sticks…
1.25 each, vs some that are 2.50+, & they go up to 600(?) or 800 grit…I’ve got a pack of emery boards, angles flat tweezers and a bunch of other supplies @ the grocery store for about 1/3-1/2 the price of equivalent stuff at hobby shop prices…
IMO, if the manufacturers of hobby supplies would shop for their own stuff vs what a lot of use in the real world, we would see(maybe) a price drop…
probably not though…[sigh]
BTW, I can’t beleive the BRONCOS[bow] this season - I didn’t, don’t and, unfortunately,WON"T believe it…'til I see another trophy…
