I am building one of Porch king tiger with Analysia on the manlet. where can I find some clear shot of this tank? did this tank have zimmerit?
is there a good site or book on this tank?
what gun barrel did it have? one piece or two piece.
thanks,tom
“Anneliese” from the sPzAbt. 503 “Feldherrnhalle” had a one-piece barrel and Zimmerit in the standard horizontal riffle, vertical grooved pattern. Overall dark yellow, +/- white wash. Other than a Balkenkreuz on the turret and name on the mantlet, no other markings are visible. (Panzerwaffe at War, vol II.) However, on page 348 of The Combat History of Schwere Panzer Abteilung 503, states it’s tactical number as 314. It does not show a photo with it’s number.
Peridexion, thank you.

did this tank really have track hanger on the side of turret?
Tamiya instruction manual saying" it had 3 color camo with white wash", do you think they could make mistake on this? I say this because on their side view of the tank, it has two piece gun barrel.
thanks, tom

The photo I have is most certainly a one piece barrel and has track hangers.
OK, now we are getting somewhere. Osprey’s; Kingtiger Heavy Tank has a color plate on page 25. Here it is 3-tone with white wash, one-piece barrel and the numbers 314 in red and white, mounted towards the rear of the turret, just in front of the rear set of track hangers.
this tiger is the king of the porch. “get off my lawn, you durn kids!” [:)]
I’d have to agree with Peridexion on the one piece gun barrel. But the color of the turret numbers is another matter.
“Sd.Kfz. 182 Pz.Kpfw. VI Tiger Ausf. B Königstiger” By Waldemar Trojca shows the turret numbers as solid black.
Which is correct ??? I have no idea.
One more thing all the color plates shows that the spare tracks on the turret also had white wash, and it is also pretty clear when you look at the pic in “The combat history of schwere panzer abteilung 503” that they did indeed have white wash.
Peridexon,
could you scan that page for me,

enjoy.
Which one do you want? The photo from Combat History of 503rd or the color plate from Osprey’s; Kingtiger Heavy Tank ?
Psst! It’s P-O-R-S-C-H-E.
According to page 8 of Tigers in Combat I, sPzAbt. 503 used black numbers with white outlines consistently throughout the war. Now we are up to 4 variations! No numbers, red and white, black and now black and white. [}:)]
Ennie, mennie, minie, moe…[:p]
Wow, Peridexion. Are you getting Deja vue???
Every day, every question…
Well, if there is one thing to be learned, it is to not believe artists prints automatically. Thank you, as always for your input!!
may I have both? anything will be helpful. I painted one before, but did not do any research, only go with tamiya instruction book. it is very strange, could not find any website about this tank.

above was the one I painted, 1/16 full option one with battle system…
tom
One day, i asked myself, why can’t i be like peridexion? I and I thus answered…because you don’t know everything yet…
Here you go;
Obviously,
this tank is odd subject. only Peridexion has some pictures.
no other website found.
Thank you Peridexion and guys for the info.
the colour plate ive got has only one hanger for the track on each side with four tracks combined together ( like the photo)
and the nuber in just black and no tracks hanging ( or hangers) at the back
i would scan them but my scanners not set up at the mo,
http://klub.chip.pl/krzemek/tiger2/tiger2_01d.jpg
this even has a exhaust cover on it. many tracks on the side. who has more pix?
According to page 8 of Tigers in Combat, vol I, the Porsche KTs of the 3rd company put their tactical numbers towards the rear of the turret. The Balkenkreuz was always in the center, regardless of company. That runs counter to that last pic.
In addition, the last pic is dead wrong on the track placement. Just look at the actual photo, the tracks are all the way forward on the turret, as compared to the last plate, which has them further back on the turret. And as Jon said, the tracks are 4 links together, with hangers only on the top. These hangers were a field modifaction, since they are not standard for Porsche turrets. Can’t argue with the real thing. [:p]
I have my doubts about whether you will find more photos of Anneliesse. If there aren’t any more in the 392 pages of The Combat History of sPzAbt.503, I doubt you will find more elsewhere.
