Hi gang,
Here is the start of a F-4G I am working on…
Just the cockpit instruments and consoles for the moment.
I will work on the seats towards the end of the build.
(they can always be plonked in later)
Its Hasegawa’s 1/48 F-4G ,with Eduard’s PE.
It will be done in European Lizard camo ,the second option in the kit.
She’ll be sealed up soon ,so here is a little preview…
If the rest is as good as 'pit, I can’t wait to see the result. And, in that scheme it’s an uncommon subject, especially given the number of Phantoms that get built. I believe the Hasegawa 1/48 F-4 series has pretty much reached classic kit status. And I’ve built more than a few AF versions, though no Navy. A question for anyone out there: I remember when the Hasegawa 1/48 A-7 series was released, a lot of reviewers called it the best OOB build they had ever seen. Is this true? I’ve seen them built up, but never in the box, and I wonder if they still have that reputation. I’d like to do one someday, using AM parts and markings.
Thanks woodbeck3 ,Rick , subfixer , oldhooker and sharkskin.
The parts you see are standard kit parts ,thanks to
hasegawa for the detail.
Also the back of the rear instrument panel has been wired
up and I added 2 oxygen hoses made from copper wire.
sharkskin ,glad you like the Spangdahlem colors ,the blend of colors,
the low vis sharkmouth…what a combination.
As for the A-7 ,sad to say I know little of the kit.
But I will definately open the box on the next one I see.
Excellent start Obiwan, can’t wait to see the rest. I haven’t seen the cammo job you talk about, but would like to, do you have a link to a pic of it somewhere?
I do have that Hasegawa A-7 and it is indeed a honey. Everything fits pretty well near to perfect, no flash and every detail is really crisp. I’m mauling mine up to fit an aftermarket intake and cockpit though, so I’m struggling with getting everything to fit with everything else.
I’d like to build an F-4 before too long, I can only hope my office turns out half as well as yours.
maddafinga ,here is the way to a Spangdahlem F-4G.
Go to google search for “Spangdahlem F-4G wild weasel”
and select 3rd link from the bottom “Aviation Photos: SP”
The picture is 2nd from the top plus a few others on the page.
Sorry I can’t make it simpler ,I can seem to use their code to link.
Good luck on your A-7 resin conversion.I 'll have to try that some day.
Looks like the beginning of a beautiful build Obiwan. Look forward to seeing the progress move along. Thanks for sharing your inner space! semper fi, mike
Nice! I don’t know what it is, but I love a shark mouth on a plane. It almost doesn’t matter what plane it is either, I just love those teeth.
Now that I think about it, the am decals I got for my A-7 have a sharks mouth as well. I may have a sickness. Be sure to keep us updated on yer phantom Oviwan!
Hehe nice, a falcon with a low vis sharksmouth, how sweet. I think the pair of them would look awfully nice sitting on the shelf together. Hmmm, interesting.
