Polly Scale Flat

A few weeks back I posted about having some trouble with the rattle can Testors Dull Cote. Several folks suggested trying Polly Scale Flat.

To all who did so- thanks!

It is drop dead flat. Flat, flat, flat. It actually makes the end result look better versus what I saw with Testors. It’s hard to explain… the whole finish just looks better to my eye.

I shoot it right from the bottle, no thinning, using a general purpose acrylic nozzle on my Aztek 470.

The stuff is practically invisible. The first time I sprayed it I wondered if anything was coming out. Then I realized the place I was spraying was turning flat. So I just moved the airbrush around it it was like the magic flat wand.

I love this stuff!

So to those who suggested it- thanks!

Another satisfied customer! [;)]

Seriously, it really is great stuff Jon. I’m hesitant to use anything else.

Be careful you dont spray to much in one area, I have a bomb that magically turned flat white after I got a little carried away [:D]

hmm…I bought a bottle of Polly S flat a while back and forgot about it…you’ve got me intrigued jwb…Ill give it a test spray on an old something and see if its meets the hype [tup]

Does it work equally well over different mediums?

I’ve only tried it over PollyScale paints, so I’m not sure. Anyone else use it over other brands/types?

Jon, I use it primarily over Future and it works great. It’s the deadest flat of anything I’ve tried.

Wholeheartedly recommend Pollyscale flat clear.

I have been using this brand since the days of Aeromaster Acrylics (re-branded Pollyscale).

To avoid frosting issues, stir thorougly, then stir some more. Thin with distilled water and spray in multiple light mist coats.

cheers

Mike

To add to the others’ experiences, I have had success thinning Flat Clear with 90% isopropyl alocohol. It sprays smooth and dries smooth and flat. I’ve done this both over Future and also directly over cured acrylic paints (Tamiya, Gunze, MM Acryl, etc.)

Like mucker, I’ve great success with this stuff over Tester Model Masters Acryl, Tamiya, Gunze, and Future.

Good advice. I actually used that to “weather” the black underside of the He 111 I posted a couple of days ago. I was spraying the flat, planning on some post shading, but I sprayed too much in and area and it turned white. After I said a few very bad words[:-^]I took a 3200 micro mesh and started to wet sand it away. Brought out the black and left a graying in the recesses. I did it to the entire bottom of the model.

That’s what you call a “happy accident”!
