Because I spray out in my garage, some of my airbrush jobs don’t turn out as expected. (The shiny ones). I tried this first on the UPS 747-8F. I had some orange peel to deal with. I was amazed at what kind of a shine you can get using it. The first thing is to make sure that the paint is fully cured. I sacrificed a brand new cotton t-shirt to apply it.
I cut off a small section of the T-shirt, wrapped it tightly around my finger, and started in small circular motions. Depending on how bad the orange peel is will determine what number you need to use (2, fine scratches 3, heavy scratches). When your polishing, you will pick up a little bit of color. That’s ok. Give it a try sometime. It works on both enamel and acrylic paints. I would practice on a piece of scrap first.
Dear Cbowling. Excellent report on a product I use frequently. Novus is also great for removing the over spray you get when you missed a spot with your masking. Cleans it up nicely. And…your airplanes look Great too.
Outstanding gloss fnish!
Do you need to start out with a somewhat heavy coat to polish? I imagine it would be fairly easy to wear through thinner coats.
Two is the number that I have used every time. Just a little bit of orange peel to begin with. Start with a clean dry cotton cloth. Very little compound. Hope this helps.
Very nice looking results. You polish the gloss paint or did you spray a clear coat on top of the color then polish the clear coat?
Nice results. It appears to add depth to the paint. I’ll have to give it a try.
Thanks. Painted with gloss, let it cure, polished, No clear coat. I didn’t see a need. I spoke with Jeremy Boyd, not to long ago. He said the paint still looks great.
Polished the paint itself. Yeah looks good and shiny.
I’ve done it with the clear coat. Similar results. It is a nice product to use and simple to apply.
This is the second time i have seen this stuff recommended. I think i will have to pick it up sometime.
Polishing a clear coat is the way I think I’ll do it. Fear of rubbing through to the primer or plastic is too much for me to worry about.
Yes I understand that- it’s one of the reasons I like to use a clear coat- to give the paint that bit of extra protection for the polishing stage. An easy way to practice is to buy a bag of plastic spoons. Paint and clear coat them and try out the Novus- that way you can get a feel for it without risking your actual model.
Yes, practice first on practice material
