Polishing canopies??

Hi All, i have spilt some thinners on my canopy and i tried rubbing it off but its left aa opaque look to the glass. My question is, what is the best thing to polish it out?.

Many thanks in advance.

Luft,

If there is no maring or scratches on the canopy then just brush on light coats of Future floor wax over the canopy and let it dry for about a day. This will take out the dullness left from the thinner and make it clear as glass again.

Air Master

If the damage is more than just a stain on the clear parts a 3 step fingernail polisher works great for light damage. I recenty repair a scratch on a new taillamp for my Camaro with one of these 3 step sticks. It worked great. Finish it up with a plastic polisher then a dip in the future and your clears should look better than new. They sell them at hobby stores but it is easier to go to a department store and find the fingernail polish section they should have them.

I’ve used Micro Mesh to polish clear plastic to better than new condition.

For serious damage, you may have to start with 800, or even 600 grit wet-or-dry sandpaper (use it wet). Follow the sequence 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000, and finally plastic polish (some toothpastes work well for this). Finish with a dip in Future.

Go to the beauty supply place and get one of those nail boards that has 4 different grits. The 1st one may be called something like SHAPE and the last (finest) grit called POLISH. Go over the canopy with those in succession and a dip in Future. It will be crystal clear

Gotta chime in here and second the praise for the Micro Mesh kit. I recently saved what appeared to be a destroyed canopy using it. It’s really quite easy and the results may shock you! Good luck!

Had a similar problem with a windshield and rear window on a car kit I was modifying a while back. Some real nasty scraches and a few minor ones. I polished it out with the Micro-Mark polishing pads, 2400 - 12000 grit. It looked really good, but I gave it a dip in Future just for grins, and the thing turned out better than new!

Yes, the heavier grits will leave a haze, but by the time you get to the 8000/12000 pads, think you’ll be amazed at the finish.

Archer out.

I went down the road to my local 'sell everything, store (Wilco) I bought a 59p Nail polishing stick. It feels like rubber on both sides. Coarse and fine. 10 mins rubbing and blow me if it didnt turn out brilliant. Ive got a coat of future on it now waiting to dry. Thx everyone.
