This Acc Min TBF 1c Avenger is made from the first production of these kits married to the very old AeroMaster RNZAF of WW II decal set, their is still a little to do on this bird, as these were maintained daily by a service crew and kept in as close to factory finish as posible every day. The name ‘Plonky’ was given to the pilot of this aircraft as he was a tea totler [never drank spirits of any kind], hence the barrel motif on the cowling.
This aircraft with exception of the decals, is strickly OOB, the paints used on this bird are from the Xtra Colour range for U.S. Navy WW II aircraft.
looking good buddy, you progress on this was ??? , can’t wait to see it finished, when do you think you’ll finish the RNFAA one you have laying around.
Thanks for all the kind coments Guys and Glen, you know how long it’s been and as for the RNFAA one, I’m waiting for you to catch up with your Flight 19 Avenger, before going back to it.
Dave,
The decals are the old AeroMaster RNZAF of WW II sheet they got the colours wrong for this bird and as it was not for a display or competition I just went with it, I have seen photo’s of what it should be in real life.
Reggie,
It’s not the pic the tyres have at this stage not been retouched, as I originally stripped the camo from this bird and as I could get the tryes off without breaking the axles they got little bits of paint on them, when I finish repairing this bird, it will look better.
Hi Rob, Thanks for that. I didn’t know that Aeromaster had realised their error and fixed it, good to hear. Either way my comment was not meant to detract from your very nice model. If anyone is interested I am currently seeting up a website for 30 Sqn Assoc., the Sqn that Plonky flew with. http://www.cambridgeairforce.org.nz/30_Sqn_Association.htm
Great work all around, Rob. I’m itching to do another AcMin “Turkey” myself, and it’s been since '96 since my last one, and I recall my only problem with the kit (and I mean Only Problem, as I recall) being a seam in the ball turret. How did you deal with it, because I don’t see it?
Tom
