Hello all,
Hope you all will forgive me for posting so much today, but I’ve waited a long time to get a camera and do have several kits finished and, well, you know how it is when a kid gets a new toy.
Please feel free to make any comments, good or bad. I have great respect for the work I see posted here and value the opinions of you here on the board.
The M-47 is Italeri’s and the M-48 is Tamiya’s, both are OOB.
Regards,
Joe
Very nice, both of them. I recently did the Tamiya kit and enjoyed it. I have been looking around for the Italeri kit without much luck however. How was it?
Outstanding. Glad to see some nice builds!
Very nice. Thanks for sharing.
Ted
You had a broken link, I corrected it for you. Nice work!! I really like your weathering style…hint hint nudge nudge…

Good looking builds. Nice weathering.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the comments.
JWest21,
The M-47 was a pretty good build. Not too fidgety. I remember the biggest headache for me were the headlight guards. Hands too big, not enough coordination or something.
Jeff,
Thanks for fixing the link.
Don’t want to appear dense, but I’m thinking you’d like a bit of info on the weathering process.
Really don’t know what to say. I use somewhat of a hodge podge of techniques and in no particular order.
Generally paint the tank with several colors (greens, black, yellows, browns) in steaks and blotches as an undercoat. Use Floquil RR colors since it seems to give a bit of bite for the base coat.
In this case painted the OD with Model Master OD. Spray a light coat of dust color overall or on selected areas then will sometimes use mineral spirits and brush to lightly streak the finish. Apply pastels. Also will take the base OD and a short, stiff bristle brush, remove most of the paint and just dab at areas where I want to show the dust rubbed off or scuffs from the crew.
Hope that is what you were looking for, if not please feel free to ask any questions you have.
Regards,
Joe
Excellent builds.
Don’t worry about posting too much. I don’t think you’ll ever get any complains on that. We’re photo vultures.
Another round of greatly done models. Keep em coming.
Niiiice builds!
Your weathering technique is very good.
Here’s one tip for extra realism: try drilling out machine-gun muzzles with a small pin vise drill.
Thanks for all the cool pix!
Actually Joe,
The hint hint nudge nudge was a polite way of saying ‘Get out your Crayons and write us an article about it!!’

Great work!
Hi Jeff,
I’m very flattered by your suggestion. Can you let me know what would be involved in writing an article?
I’ve never attempted anything like that and would appreciate additional information.
Thanks,
Joe
They look good, but you have to work on your head light painting. The silver doesn’t encompass the entire “glass” portion. Also on the M47, the IR headlights are painted a shade of red, but should be more properly a gloss black color like you did on the M48. Overall a nice job though.
A solution to painting headlights is to use model railroad clear lenses made by MV. Another solution is too drill out the headlight, paint the recess silver, then add a few drops of 5 minute epoxy, or even Elmer’s glue to the hole. It will dry clear and give you a glass-like appearance.
Maj, Rob,
Thanks, these are the comments I’m looking for.
I stated in another post the eyes are old and don’t see that well in 1/35. Enlarging the pictures helps to show a lot that might otherwise be overlooked. At least I think most of the corrections are small ones.
Regards,
Joe
I reacently did the M-48 from tamiya, but the shark mouth decals were craked were could I find more? By the way nice models I also did the M-47
Hi Jimmy,
First let me extend a welcome to the board[#welcome].
I had some cracks in my decals as well, but used a product called Micro Superfilm. It’s a liquid that you brush on the bad decals that will hold them together when they are cut and dipped in water.
If your set is already destroyed there are some boards where they have “swap shop” listings where you could advertise for the the set you need. Always best to give the scale, manufacturer and kit number so folks know exactly what you need.
Hope this helps[:D]

Joe
Nice kits , the weathering on the M-47’s exhaust covers looks GREAT ! For the tracks , I painted mine Humbrol " Track Color " , then used pencil lead , lead shavings , from a pencil , and rubbed all areas with my pudgy fingers , focussing on the metal parts , then I painted the rubber portions dark grey , and highlited , the center guides with silver . Then applied pastels , and my tracks turned out great . I have built both kits , and I like your " Out of the box " , approach . It greatly assists modellers new to Armor , it shows that you don’t need " PE this " , or " Resin that ", to build an accurate tank. Looking forward to seeing more of your Armor !
