For kicks I decided to build a Revell F-106 in 1/48. My first attempt at the kit (before FSM and superglue were discovered- for me at least) turned out to be a disaster.
My second attempt is much better, metinks…[:)] There’s a couple ProModeler F-4 decals on the tail, but otherwise this is a bare-bones F-106 (no aftermarket, I don’t think there is any for the RM kit…). Kit is painted for the ETO after a small crisis involving russia and an attempted invasion of West Germany.
Nice looking Dart! From very unsuccessful experience, I can tell you, this kit is one heck of a project. I have 4 to build as close to perfection as possible. Revell having had the ONLY 1/48th scale, its part of a huge project, dedicated towards my fathers time in the Air Force. 4 f-106’s, 1 F-101, 1 F-4 C/D, and 1 F-16. The 106’s and 101 at this point almost intimidate me, considering the variety of beautifully molded slap together kit company’s and the variety of after market products to improve the other said aircraft. There were, not sure if they are still in production, but were, after market cockpit kits, and wheels for the revell 106. I am not positive, but I may have some detail kits for the weapons bays as well. I bought all of these things several years back when I was stationed in Italy, but was always afraid to use them until I get what I consider to be a very accurate build. I have attempted 3 thus far. Not bad results really, but this is for something special, and we are our own worst critics, afterall, lol. So after collecting the decals for the proper units, and the aftermarket parts, I wanna be sure they are up to my standards.
As for the color scheme, the testors aircraft grey is accurate for the ADF color scheme many of the century fighters carried. The 102’s, 101’s, 106’s, F-4’s, and even some t-33’s carried this color scheme. I am sure there were more, but I personally saw those growing up on the flightline.
That grey is called ADC Grey and it’s a specific (and distinct) FS number which I don’t have at the moment because I’m at the college. You’ve got some of your ordinance misaligned in the bay. Someone would have been in trouble for loading out the aircraft that way. I’ve got a 106 waiting to be built as a follow on to my F100 and F-101C. The F-101C was a conversion from the F-101B RM kit.
Nice build! [:D] Always good to see the Monogram Century Series stuff get built up…pretty sure there is a fair bit of AM available for this kit if you so choose, Eduard Zoom available (just got one for the -102) and I think Legend produces 'pits for most of the Century stuff.
It all depends, really. You have to use clamps to get the fuselage to sit right, ptherwise you’ll get a huge gap… The rest of the kit is like that, but it can be dealt with it a modicum of time with some superglue and elbow grease
I do like the kit though; very detailed. So many possibilities…
