i took my boy to RAF Duxford and heres a couple of photos
its a good museum apart from the odd targets here and there[4:-)]
all the hangers were open and alot of the planes were being worked on so there were nice shots of engines and other bits of planes
the tanks they had there were a Grisely, a Cromwell comand tank, a Js2,challenger 2, t72, there was loads [C):-)]
its well worth a viset if your in the UK
and on most days there something flying (apart from when we went as they were resefacing the runway)
Jon, Looks like you and your son had fun. What type of tanks are those. They look like Soviet union armor personal carrier and anti-aircraft tanks.

The first one looks like a PT-76 light tank, and the second is a ZSU 23-4 Shilka mobile AA platform. Man, I wish I could climb one them myself! You two had the best of all possible worlds that day. That’s a great way to spend time with your son.
i think the top one is a PT 76 amphibius tank as used by the NVA against a special forces base in Vietnam
and the other is a Shilka AAA i think it was captured from Iraq in the first GW
there both rusian and i think they run them aswell[4:-)]
Andrew loved it he didnt want to see the planes he just wanted to see the Tanks[oX)]
im teaching him well[swg]
there was other Iraqi stuff there
Ya know I remember when my dad took me to his old airbase, Lowry I believe it was (Closed now) [sigh] brings back memories. I got to climb on a… ummm… i believe it was a T72… but im not sure, and several other tanks from WWII to the coldwar. when I have a kid, I’ll do something similar with them.
Jon, nice to finally see you, now I know whom I talking to in the Panther thread. [8D] That looks like a lot of fun you and your son must have had. My son would probably just yawn and ask when are we going home. [V]

One day, I will actually get to go to either Ft. Knox or Bovington. In the mean time, it’s great to see members’ photos from their visits (OK, I’m just plain jealous!) [;)]
I had the same problem with my digi cam at the show yesterday. I love 'em but, you really can’t tell if you have taken a good picture until you get them home.
Good to see a Son and Dad spending quality time. My oldest is 15 and just wants to hang with his friends these days, and the 14 year old says it is not cool to be seen with the oldies. Ah, they grow so fast…at least I can still look forward to a few more years with Mr 3 year old!
Now for the big question…did your boy ask if Santa could bring him one at Christmas?
Gday Capt Caveman,
I went to the UK to meet a penfriend in 1990.We were driving through Cambridgeshire and she pointed out “just some old military museum or something”.After begging and babbling alternately she took me in there and I spent one of the best days of my life running from tank to tank, plane to plane just touching them. She couldn’t understand what the fuss was about.
Never told anyone but I think I enjoyed Duxford almost as much as meeting the girl.
Is that wierd or just a guy thing?
Let’s not start that one again! I thought we FIRMLY established that Utah is off the eastern coast of Madagascar and is the world’s leading manufacturer of stretched sprue and duct tape. SO, let’s stop. Shall we??[:D]
Oh,
Looks like a SUPER trip! I always took my kids to museums with me also and it’s been a great family expereince. ESPECIALLY getting up close and personal with tanks and such. Brought them to the tank range once too… is that odd? They seemed to like it.
