Anyone know where one can get Novus plastic polish in Western Canada (BC) or Washington?
What might be a good alternative to Novus for polishing scratches out of clear canopy plastic? [V]

Yup, I’m serious. I use a 3-grit flexible emery board ($2 at most drug stores) to sand seams and scratches out, then I use the toothpaste (make sure it’s not the gel kind, but the regular white stuff) to polish it with an old cotton washcloth. Then (and I haven’t done this yet) dip them in future and let them dry for 24 hours. Voila! Shiny crystal clear cockpits.

“Bare Metal Foil” company makes a 1 or 2 oz. botttle of plastic polish that works very nicely…not unlike #2 Novus…
can’t disagree with the toothpaste / future either…ain’t failed me yet !
Micro-mark offers micro mesh. It’s super fine sandpaper and a liquid polishing agent.
Chimera, did you try your local auto parts supply? You can find all kinds of polishes there. Frequently, I use Brasso or Silvo to polish out the scratch and then use The Treatment model wax to bring out the retina searing shine.

I tried that on a car I was trying to build when I was a kid… it looked great at first but after a day with as many small crevices in the panels that models have it makes them white (or the base color of the wax)
not sure about some of the newer clear liquid waxes though…
I suppose you could clean them out… (just thining about it) but I think that the residue would be a headache… especially if it were something in 1/72 scale. (was thinking about the wax and had to re-reply.
A few quick comments:
- I’ve seen Novus at several of the Calgary hobby shops. Chinook Hobbies in particular is where I bought mine. Might be worth looking them up and seeing if they’ll mail some out to you
- I’ve also used car wax (Turtle), but this is different than the Novus products. The Novus stuff really is a polish, which has a very fine abrasive quality. A ‘wax’ (like carnuba wax) is more like a final finish and a protective coating. I’ve heard the zymol stuff is the best, but haven’t ever seen or used it. Some polishes/waxes are double-duty, and claim to both polish and wax at the same time. Never used any of them. Be careful what you buy though, because some of the auto stuff has some powerful solvents in it that can cut through model paints pretty quickly.

Yeah, but they don’t have it. Sad to say… ordering things through them hasn’t yielded the best results. I am still waiting (month 3) on some aftermarket Eduard stuff I ordered through them. [xx(] Next time I will net-order it myself. It’ll get here faster. [}:)]
I have some metal polish called Blue Magic that I haven’t spot tested yet, but plan to. The toothpaste thing surprises the heck outta me, but I’ll certainly give it a shot!
