I read in one of the reviews printed here that the PL kit includes two different lower secondary hull halves. One for TMP refit and one for the Enterprise A. I never knew nor noticed the difference. What is the difference?
The two pieces are almost identical. One hull has a few extra panel lines and one panel the other doesn’t have, otherwise I don’t see any other differences. If you’re thinking about this kit don’t hesitate, it’s great.[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]
They essentially did the same thing with the TOS Enterprise kit. They included all of the extra pieces necessary to do any one of the three versions; First Pilot, Second Pilot, and the regular Production model [;)].
This was how I’d actually learned of the differences in the deflector dishes and Shuttle Bay doors, as well as there being three variations on the end vents for the warp nacelles. I mean, I knew there were some differences – mainly with the bridge module and sensor dome, as well the “perforated” (for lack of a better word) end vents – but not that many. Wow! [:0]
I’m actually waiting on for one of thier Refit Enterprise kits through Starship Modeler. Compared to the prices some people are asking on eBay – $60.00 USD plus shipping – thier price of $45.00 USD is far more reasonable to me. I’ll be sending them payment for mine this Friday, so hopefully I’ll get it soon afterward! [8D]
And considering how impressed I was with the quality of thier TOS Enterprise kit, I don’t doubt I’ll be as equally impressed – if not more so – when I do manage to get my hands on this baby! [:D]
What a coincedence. I am also waiting on one of those kits from starship modeler. I think it is going to look tight in my “Ships called Enterprise” collection. Especially considering it will be the first one in the collection.
Oh… you haven’t gotten Polar Lights’ TOS Enterprise kit yet? I would definitely suggest getting that one as well if you can, as that too would make a very nice addition to your “Ships called Enterprise” collection, dude! [:D]
Hmmm, that does seem very minor to include an entire hull half, but HEY by all means i aint complaining. We hvae never before had this type of quality in the sci-fi modeling relm. Only the car and military kits kit this kind of attention to detail. And Yes i am VERY impressed with the TOS kit from PL. I was never interested in picking it up in a hurry until I found out it came with TWO sets of optional warp nacells!! Extra parts alone are worth picking up the kit. All this for only $10!!! I can’t beleive that this new Enterprise only sells for around $50 considering how much you pay for a Tamiya military kit…[8)]
I just made the decision to do this project and the refit/A was the first kit that I found that jumped on me. I will probably get another and to fill both holes. I think the biggest trick I will have is finding decals to do the space shuttle.
Ah, I see… well, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this one so much you’ll just have to get the other Polar Lights kits! So far, I’m aware of thier ENT NX-01, TOS Enterprise, TOS Klingon Battle Cruiser, Refit Enteprise, and NEM Scorpion. I don’t know if they’ve come out with any other Star Trek kits recently.
BTW, does anyone know just how long the Refit Enterprise is supposed to measure once built? I heard somewhere this baby measures in at over three feet long! That’s huge! Much larger than AMT/Ertl’s kit. Of course, being that large a scale then means any and all details will show up quite nicely.
Man! I can’t wait to get my hands on one! [:D]
34 inches[^][:P][party][tup][:D] best platic sci fi kit from a major manufacturer. If RC2 kills this line they don’t deserve to own the company.[}:)]
So, almost three feet in length… man, that’ll build up in one awesome display model! BTW, I actually just sent payment to Starship Modeler earlier today for this kit, so I should receive it early next week. I’m so excited about this one, I can’t wait to put it together! [:D]
The saucer on this kit looks like a small platter that Wal Mart puts a deli platter on. That is how big it is.
I know… I’ve seen pics of the Polar Lights saucer next to an AMT/Ertl saucer for comparison, and this one’s HUGE! Not like I’m complaining or anything though; I just need to figure where I’m going to put this thing once it’s finished! [:D]
I know. I haven’t even started it yet and where it will go is already a topic of…of…of lively discussion.
Thanks to a friend in the States, I should be recieving mine in a few days here in Japan… I was having a look over at the Cult TVmans site the other day, and I saw a couple of the deBoa (or however you spell it) Enterprise’s… And it just amazed me that those guys were charging from memory around $1000 for that kit… Not sure if they are still doing them, but to think of something that was about the same length as this PL one, and the price it was. And now we have something that is the same size or larger for only $50 bucks, is just insane!.. I understand that the other guys didnt have the resources of PL, but still, that is alot of money for a $50 kit!.. Anyways, I will look forward to mine arriving!
Chris in Japan
Hey Chris,
I just received my own Refit Enterprise kit in the mail late last week, and I can assure you 110% that you’re going to love yours, dude! You’ll be astounded at first with just how large it really is built up (I couldn’t get over the sheer size of it when I first test-fitted it). And I totally agree that $50.00 for a kit of this level of detail and accuracy is definitely worth that price! Of course, now that have one, I want to have more (LOL)! [:D]
