Pink vs. White primer under yellow? Which to use?

For a long, long time whenever I’ve had to paint yellow on a model, I always used to lay down a white undercoat first. I’ve done it that way for years.
But in the last several months or year, I’ve read how a lot of modelers are laying a pink undercoat down instead of white.
So what gives? Why is pink better than white? Help me to understand.

I’ve seen a video from Champion Scale Modelling where he explains using pink will give the yellow a more vibrant colour. Whatever that means, if it becomes brighter.

When is doubt, do a test.

I think it comes down to the kind of yellow.

If it’s a deep yellow, like chrome yellow, use pink for a richer yellow.

If it’s a light, pale yellow, use white.

Have never heard of using pink as an under color for yellow, have only ever heard of using/used white. Am now curious to see what results it produces.

Like so many other things in our hobby, it comes down to personal experience and preference.
I have heard the same thing about using pink as a base color under yellow. I get it, but I’m skeptical whether it’s an absolute or not.
Try it and see what you think. That’s the best you can do.

I did pick up some pink, so I’m going to do some tests this afternoon or tonight and see what the results are.

I’ve used pink a handful of times and I’ve then had no issues with coverage. It does make the yellow more vibrant…perfect for a pre-war yellow wing scheme.
