I was trying to match the color of the rubber hoses on a Model T engine (top) but couldn’t find an exact paint. A three parts Tamiya XF-60 Dark Yellow with two parts XF-7 Flat Red gave me something pretty close (bottom). Just thought I’d post this in case it should be helpful to anyone else.
That looks to be pretty decent, maybe a tad darker, but definitely close enough to look right. I wonder if a bit of a flesh tone would lighten it without actually changing the colour.
That’s a good idea, Frozin. I think you’re right that a touch of flesh tone would bring it closer.
Thanks for sharing this with us Troy.
I’ve not had the opportunity to replicate such a color as of yet but if I do then I’ve got something to refer to.
If you can find Mountbatten Pink, a colour used in WW2 for tanks and ships, you should have a good match.
Vallejo’s Panzer Aces line of paints includes an Old Rubber color. It is a light gray with a pink-ish cast. It might be good for WWI aircraft tires or weathering base for late-WWII tires that have seen lots of wear Their Light Rust color appears as a match for the prototype gasket picture you included.
Squadron Colors makes 3 (yes, three) shades of Mountbatten Pink, RN Light, RN Dark, and USN. To my eye, both RN Light and USN are too gray. The RN Dark may be a suitable alternate
Heat shrink comes to mind. Comes in all sorts of colors.
