Pink or Blue insulation foam board

Hi

I’m about to start my first Dio but was wondering is there a difference between the 2 foam boards listed in the title? i.e. pink or blue. I ask because there is a Lowes about a mile from my house but they just have the blue stuff.

Whattaya want to use it for? The stuff rocks for building bunkers… Whatcha got in mind?

Ok, it appears from what I’ve checked the major difference is just foam density and has to do the insulation values…

For diorama bases, it shouldn’t make a difference which you use…

Looking through that article, I’d suggest you do one thing that the writer didn’t, and that’s make sure that you can do a nice edge on the stuff after it’s done, a veneer or some such… The unfinished edges of his piece make the finished dio look a bit rough…

I’m kind of a “Frame-Nazi” on that, since the base is the frame for your “picture” and a lousy frame can make a great dio look like a POS…

I have to pop in here to ask… Where do you get these blue/pink foam ? I can’t seem to find any hardware store selling them here… What stores do I have to go into? And are they pricey?

And I agree with Hans… make the edges look better… In all kinds of work, it is the little things that adds the final touch, or something… Think I misspelled that entire sentence… [xx(]

I found the blue stuff at Lowes and from some additional research the pink stuff is available at Home Depot. The stuff at Lowes is $9.44 for a big sheet. Not surprising as it is intended to insulate walls, not make dio bases.

We modelers are nothing if not insanely inventive!!! [:D]

Since your in Norway try Byggmakker, as after some research I discover that is Norway’s equalivalent to Lowes or Home Depot.

I tried Byggmaker, but only the standard white foam thing I don’t know in english… Also in such a low density it was impossible for modelmaking… Anyways, I try some bigger Byggmakker stores here and there… Maybe one of the German Bauhaus that has come… or is due to come…
