Been reading about pigments and white spirit (turpentine) is used to fix the pigments. Just wondering now if Isopropanol (isopropyl alcohol) will have the same effect in fixing the pigments?
Also, won’t I need to put some sort of varnish on first if I’m putting this on acrylics? I know Isopropyl will dissolve the paint and I imagine the white spirit would do the same.
Not sure what you mean by “fix” the pigments. This sounds like a “fine arts” term.
Turpentine and isopropyl alcohol are solvents—they dissolve things, usually.
Are you talking about applying a wash?
Turpentine should not have any effect on acrylic paints—the two are incompatible. Similarly, isopropyl alcohol will have no effect on enamels or most lacquers (unless the lacquer is alcohol soluble). It is incompatible with these coatings.
