Pics of the 1/35 Academy Tiger

The Big Cat is almost done. I had originally intended to beef it up with some aftermarket parts but was scared off by some of the price tags of those things and decided I am gonna be happy with the way it is.

A couple of details need to be touched up (towing chains, ammo pouches and a piece of tissue paper that I didn’t notice until I took the pics) and I’ll add the frontal track tomorrow. I think i may also take some rougher tissue paper and coat the shel catch with it to give it that canvas look. The base I stole from my Panzer IV. Its too small for the Tiger and the tracks impression aren’t correct but I thought it would look decent.

Here are the direct links as I seem to have the Red X disease:

Thanks!

Hey Mel, I tried to check out your Tigger and I get a message saying “FORBIDDEN-YOU CANNOT ACCESS THIS ADDRESS ON THIS SERVER” ! !

OOPS! Are you having a problem with Photoshop? Try copying the URL address–not the image code–into the box…

Thank you, pal - i think i may fixed it.

Nope, I’m STILL “FORBIDDEN”!!! [:O]AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGHH!!![(-D]

Good lord!! I just dumped webshots and shifted to photobucket.

Please tell me you can see these:

NOW WE’RE TALKIN’! ! !

WOW! That’s a BEAUTY! [bow][wow]

Really nice work! THe whitewash is stunning, and the weathering inside and out is very nicely done! I love the “old Veteran” look!)[4:-)][yeah]

If I could offer a teenie bit of advice–wash the shells with an acrylic black to give them an oiled look–real shells were oiled to prevent corrosion, and they never look that spankin’ new and shiny. Check out the shels in my Hetzer in my last post (the “interior painted WIP” post); it might be a page back by now, but you can see the general sheen that’s closer to true.

Beyond that, it’s a prizewinner! (Smart choice with Photobucket bythe way; they got their stuff together over there!)

hey man i love the tiger.is that seem supposed to be on top of the radio.and one quick question.how come one doesnt see any or very little personal items among interior .i certainly used to carry personal items inside.blankets shaving kits?again very nice build,my favorite is the rough winter wash.send more pics.

Thanks for the encouraging words.

I am gonna address the shells with a wash. I may even rip out the top row and replace them with some brass shells that I should have left over from my Dragon Tiger.

I think I am going to revisit the build a little bit and also take off the molded chains and replace with some jewelry chain - and yes - that is indeed a seam that I hadn’t notice which needs cleaning up. The Tiger does look a little lifeless, I have to agree. I may try my hands on scratchbuilding a shaving creme set in a 1/35 scale  even though I don’t think it would lay around in the tank. The only pics I found of interiors were from museum models and old black and whites, none of them showing any personal stuff.

Hey Mel,

A lot of work there on that interior. I was noticing that the recoil counter balance on the r/s of the turret looks incomplete, heres the real deal:

Also, the comment about the shells being “oiled” is not accurate IMHO. I never “oiled” my main gun ammo, I think tankers have better things to do? Here is a pic of the real deal:

I think you could do a point wash, but don’t dirty up the brass. Tankers are very particular about keeping the main gun ammo dry and clean, a misfire due to dirt, gunk or contamination could mean your life.

I scratch built most of my interior:

Here are some more interior shots:

Hello

I have this Academy Tiger… waiting in the production line… all the info and pic’s are going to help a lot…

Greetings

…I’m not now or have never been a tanker[BH] (WAAA![(-D]) so, with all due respect to crocketts first-hand knowledge, I wouldn’t have posted that comment arbitrarily!–I remember reading it in one of those big hardcover Schiffer books; if I could remember which one, I’d post it!

Perhaps it referred to when they started making stainless steel shells? Can’t remember specifics![banghead]

Anyhoo, what crockett said is undoubtedly true, but today’s tanks and firing systems are also undeniably more complex and sensitive, plus better transported I’m sure. I expect some things have changed in 50 years?

However, color ref. shots of brass shells in the Hetzer ref. book I’m currently using shows a definite blackish-cloudy sheen over the brass- definitely NOT a bright brass, but then, in that shot that crockett provided the shells are definitely of a cleaner hue; could it be that they are because this is in a restored/display vehicle and maybe not under actual combat conditions? Go figure!!![%-)]—but do what makes you comfortable! Don’t have a scanner or I’d post the Hetzer shells pic too! Sorry!

The best I can do is show a pic of my Hetzer shells which are pretty dead-on to my ref. photos:

BTW crockett, that TIgger of yours ROCKS!!![8D][wow]

Thats a nice built! I’ve noticed that all the holders in the pictures are labelled - would that be accurate or was this done to a restored Tiger ?

I am currently revamping the built a little - I’ve added some undevelopped exposed film to the vision ports and i am scratchbuilding a clipboard for the commander…maybe a map for the driver. I wonder what else would lay around in a Tiger.

hey doogster,

just my opinion, not saying i’m right. just seems that any lubricant would be a dirt magnet, and that crud would end up in the breech. good point on the steel casings though, never thought of that.

p.s. what are you working on now?

regards,

steve

Ditto. Although the AM sets look quite tempting. They really do add a lot in terms of detail.

. I agree on the “dirt magnet” thing, croc; I thought the same thing when I read it…still working on this Hetzer; lotsa issues with the Verlinden interior; I’m on the engine now—Sorry for “hijacking” your post MadMel! We’ll shut up now!!![:-^][(-D]

Thats quite alright - I’ve learned so much from the good people on this board.

Staying on topic, I like the Tiger and the whitewash Mel.

Doesn’t brass tarnish?
