also what kind of lights do you all use when taking pics of models
If your just looking to take 35mm or digital stills, you can save yourself some serious cash with a trip to Home Depot…
They have Halogen work lamps in different wattages. They are caged and have clamping swivel mounts all for about $10. I suggest get one stronger than the other two to use as your ‘Key’ (main) light.
What you will need with these is a material called ‘tuff spun’. It comes in sheets and it’s used in the film industry to ‘scrim’ lights. That means you can diffuse and control light the way you want.
The tuff spun is held over the light cages with clothes pins and really softens and controls the lights so you don’t have hot spots. It’s made of fibreglass so it doesn’t burn (don’t try this with something else, lights get really hot) and it’s relatively cheap…
You can get it from photography supply houses or from the source…Rosco. Rosco also makes colored gels as well.
A google search will get you a lot of sources.
a decent camera store should carry Smith Victor light kits 2 stands and lights with reflectors are about $149.99 they use photo flood light and I agree with the previous poster, tuff spun over the lights gives a nice diffused quality of light.
I paid about $80 for a two-light set-up by Smith-Victor. By the blue photoflood bulbs to match the color balance of daylight film (unless you like the yellow cast of regular photofloods.) A word on diffusers: Mount them several inches away from the light head–photofloods are HOT. —Riff
