Photo Etched "The FIRST TIME"

Hi All, Well I’m back…I have made some nice out of the box kits. Now I’m doing a Hawker Tempest V from Eduard! It has RESIN PARTS and "PHOTO ETCHED ones also. Can some one tell me what I need to do, the tools I need ect. This is my first experience with Photo Etched items. I have no clue how to glue, bend or for that matter even get them off the tree! Any help will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!! Flyboy (THANKS to ALL you awsome modelers!!)

Flyboy the getting them off the tree I can help you with. I am still learning the rest myself. Its best to put the parts on a piece of tape or cut them inside a large pastic bag. I use a small nipper called a flush cut pliers found in hardware stores. The bag or the tape keep those small parts from becoming airborne when you snip it. The velocity they achieve is amazing. Oh I picked up a great tip here in case the part hits the floor. Someone said put a flashlight on the floor and the part casts a nice shadow more easily seen then the part. It works!

Hey Flyboy…good news for both of us. I was just checking the next issue of FSM (November thats is) and there is going to be an article on the basic of photo etch

THANKS for the TIP’s Tommy!! Thats some GREAT NEWS!! Guess I’ll put the FW190 on hold till then…hehehe…I also saw a tip on the wearing of a plane…the prime, metalize, paint and then sand-scuff deal…Think I’ll do my first "weathering-war/wear on this one also!! MAN…is this forum and mag site GREAT!!

Thanks again!!
