I am working on a 1/35 sherman tank and have been looking at the detail and phote etch sets for it. There is a lot but I dont know which ones to chose from. I am jsut looking for out side detail not interior stuff. If any of you could lend me your words of wisdom that would be great.

I just finished the tamiya sherman recently and I used the Eduard PE set, which had pleanty of outside details, more than enough to make it look good.
Depends on how much you want to spend.
The Eduard set is reasonable in price and comes with pretty much everything you need and then some.
Royal makes one of the best sets for a Sherman that I’ve ever used, but it is very expensive.
On The Mark makes an excellent set but they can be hard to get ahold of.
Now if this is your first try at PE … I would suggest you pick up a Eduard Sherman Zoom set that just includes the brush guards. They are the most inaccurate thing in any Sherman kit. The zoom kit is a great way to learn how to use PE without spending a lot of money. To be honest, I only use 30 - 50 % of any PE set I have bought. If the part doesn’t greatly improve the final product, I won’t use it.
The Eduard Zoom kit is # TP 028 and are called US Sherman Headlight Guards
and should cost around $5.

No you haven’t missed anything in any of the mags. I just do what I can with what I have for the membership here based on my experiences and knowledge. There are some very top grade Sherman fanatics out there whom I pale in comparison to.
Doubt it. Some of those experts really aren’t all that great (there are exceptions of course, Hunnicutt comes to mind) However… I think it’s time for you to share your knowledge more broadly. An aritcle on what you just commented on, PE parts and after market accessories would be great. There are a lot of questions about that stuff out there and you know the answers. (besides that, the extra $$$ doesn’t hurt when it comes to buying more models!).[;)][:D]

Ron & Bill - Once again I thank you for the encouragement.
Once again I will state that I am an expert of nothing, let alone a “Sherman Expert”.
Some very good publications exist, but some of them are OOP and are hard to attain.
But your points about there being a distinct lack of good, solid modelling info for the Sherman are well taken. Let’s just say that I have been considering doing “something” in regards to this. A sort of compilation of available info. But it is at the very, very early stages. More or less just at the “pebble in the shoe” stage. I would appreciate any feed back from you or any others with your thoughts and ideas for something like this. Ideas of content, format (hardcopy or digital?), or a website. Just give me some input and we’ll see where it goes.

That sounds like an excellent idea… of course, a web page is easiest to do and may be a good starting point, however, I think a good old reference book is always cool too… except you can’t update it like a web site. Maybe a combo of both…?

I vote for a web site. It would reach the greatest amount of people by far, it´s easy to update and can be very professionally done or something not so serious.
Any type of hardcopy would be hard to distribute, difficult to print and there would be no way to update it. It would never reach the same amount of people and might even just become a thing for yourself (which you don´t need because you know it allready)
