I bet you thought I’d say something like “Phinally Phinished Phantoms” or “Phanitical Phantoms Phound” or something like that. But you’d be wrong. I’m not that silly ;-p
Most importantly, I have to say thank you ikar01!!! He was kind enough to send me a wing-fold kit, enabling me to fold the wings of the Nave F-4.
Both of these are Hasegawa 1/72 models. The USAF F-4 is a very old mold, with raised pannel lines. The Navy F-4 is the new mold, and I loved that kit. I have one more to build. The Navy F-4 came from the Ron Barbour estate sale, where he had 1000+ phantom kits. Both Phantoms have pre-shading, and the Navy Phantom has a wash (I’m still learning on how to make a good wash though). I didn’t put too much time into the USAF plane, but I am very happy with the Navy build. I also cut the flaps out. Both have 3 tanks which will be added soon. Also, I forgot to add the second gear door on the navy F-4, so that will be added soon. The USAF plane will be hung from my ceiling. Anyhow, enough talk, here are some pics.

Please, feel free to express constructive critisims. I’m still looking to become a better modeler.
Hey Joshua, let me be the first to say great job!!! The Navy bird is VERY impressive. It looks very good with the other 2 Navy guys. Keep up the good work!
I pheel they are phabulous! You did a phine job. I think they’ll look great hanging phrom your ceiling or sitting phlat on the shelph. The Navy bird looks like it’s ready to phly oph a carrier, such as the USS Phranklin D. Roosevelt, phlung very phast from the catapult.
Again- phantastic work! Must’ve been a lot of phun! That’s always been one of my phavorite phighters.
Your Phantoms look good, however one slight problem… “Showtime 100” F-4J the walkways along fusalage from intakes back were black not gray and so were the ones on the wings. Other than that they look real good. I’m pointing this out cause I have built that particular Phantom 3 times since 91’ and will be doing so again very soon. I take it your F-4J was the Hasagawa kit, mine is the OOP Monogram kit (see below).
Criticism? They look awesome on my screen…and your right especially the Navy bird.Excellent work, thanks for sharing.I’m thinking about trying out 1/72 scale.I tried it out when I first started building, but I was turned off by how delicate some of the parts were.Anyway…great job.You have every reason to be proud.
Joshua, Wow! They are PHABLULOUS!!! You have turned out a couple of real head turners. I love the “J” like the others, but the paint work on your air force bird is awesome! I hope mine turns out as nice as that! Darren.
Those are great Joshua. Really like the wing fold. A question: with the way hasegawa always tricks me with old mold in new box - what do you look for to make sure you are getting the new mold? Thanks, and again, nice work.
Leon
The only criticism that I can offer is that they look TOO damned good! [swg] Your work is phanominal, and these builds are all exquisite! Thanks for sharing!
You fellas are too kind. Even made me blush a little.
jwb- you post made me laugh.
Air Master - I was wondering if it might have black walkways, but the decals were grey, so I went with those.
gwaihir - Well, it was a guessing game really. I bought the first F-4 (USAF) off E-bay, thinking that all Hasegawa kits were excellent (how naieve). I put the kit away half finished for a long time, before finishing it with the new mold. Other than the size of the box, I wouldn’t know how to tell the two apart. The new mold is in a larger box, while the old one is in a smaller narrow box.
Thanks again everyone. I am personally pleased with the navy bird (and the paint on the USAF bird), and I’m glad to see that you guys like it too. Now, if I could only figure out a way to make all my builds this nice…
