Phantom intake question

I just recieved from Great Models the Cutting Edge seemless intakes for my Hasegawa F-4J. GM’s site says they are for the F-4E/F/G/J/S. When I get them, I find the package says they are for the F-4E/F/G/EJ. No mention of the J. So I guess I have the wrong thing. What is the difference between the J and the E intakes. The CE set comes with the outside intakes, the trunking and the fans, plus the splitters, so that is where I am looking for the differences. Thanks.

The intakes were identical on all F-4 aircraft with the exception of the British aircraft. Air Force and foreign aircraft used the J-79GE-15 or -17 engines. Navy aircraft used the J-79GE-8 and -10 engines.

The -15 and -17 engines had two struts on the engine forward accessory housing. They were at the 4 and 8 o’clock position. They also had a bigger dome covering the CSD and generators. The -8 and -10 did not have these struts and the nose dome was more pointed and smaller in diameter.

The intake splitter plate, vari ramps, and trunks are all the same.

I wonder what Cutting Edge’s difference is, then. Here are both kits. They look similiar but both sepcifically say they are not interchangeable.

I don’t see any difference.

I can’t see it either. Guess I should try dry fitting.

By looking at the pictures, the compressor section is for the -15 or -17 engines. You can see that the CSD/generator dome has the support struts. The dome is not the type used on the -10 engines found on the F-4J. Did the kit include the engine compressor section that you can use in place of the CE kit? If not, remove the struts and go with them. It will not be that obvious looking down the intakes at that scale. The only people that will know is you, me and the other 55,000 plus members on this site.[swg]

Thanks Berney! Saves me the trouble of sending it back. I will check the kit and if not, I will do a little trimming/sanding
