I’ve been searching for a long time to find a good acrylic silver and I almost gave up until I stumbled across an old bottle of citadels mithril silver in one of my boxes of paint. The paint is thick and syruppy but after thining it with some of tamiyas acrylic thinner it was perfect for spraying through my airbrush , I sprayed on two light coats and it came out awesomly , it has a smooth surface and has a brilliant shine and is the perfect colour for producing steel. Whats also good is that the paint is very easy to clean and has not got a grainy look like tamiyas metallics . their ar a few different colours available which I havent yet tried but will hopefully go and stock up soon. If your looking to produce a nice metallic without all the hassle of priming and using expensive paints I would suggest trying citadels metallic paints[:D]. Now what did I do with that old mustang…
Thanks for the tip mate. I found another good metal finish paint, Gunze Sangyo Mr metal color. They are a buffing metal colour, but, once buffed, don’t come off under tape or fingertips (at least in my experience they don’t). The chrome silver stuff turns out very smooth. And the best thing is that they are ready for airbrushing straight from the bottle. Just spray on, buff, and you have a good cheap NMF. I’ve even had success brushing it on.
Have to agree with you there, although I have moved across to Vallejo now, Citadel acrylics are superb paints. I use them mostly for detail painting
How fragile is the finish btw, I have not sprayed Mithril through an airbrush. I cut mine with Methylated spirits.

good to know. thanks for the tip.
Pingtang, those paints are on my shopping list now!
I like the fact they are AB ready.

Tamiya’s spray Aluminium cans are excellent.
Nothing beats Alclad 2, or even comes close!
I’ve used Citadel paints in the past for brush painting but never tried airbrushing with them. They are very good acrylics, although I’ve switched to Vallejo which are superoir IMHO. For a NMF, I really don’t think Alclad2 can be beat for all around performance, Of course Alclad2 is a lacquer, so if you really want an acrylic, the Citadel may work OK.

yes indeed!
Tamiya AS-12 is simply the best short of Alcad2 which is not easy to get here in Australia

I like Citadel paint. I was recently at a Games Workshop Games Day, basicly a covention, and got into the last round of a speedpainting contest. GW makes citadel paint, and to my suprise, because it was the last round, I got to keep all the paint in front of me! I have almost all the colors now, in the new bottles. The new bottles are well-engneered to, thier basicly spillproof.
I find they are particualy good because of its syrup consistancy which can be thinned to the max and can still produce a nice silver.
The colours available are: Boltgun metal , chainmail silver , and mithril silver.
The best colour is chainmail silver or mithril silver because they give an excellent silvery steel look which is superb for NMF aircraft. The boltgun metal is a much darker colour which is similar to Tamiyas gunmetal.
I just used the boltgun metal and all i can say is yes!!! Iis the best colour for guns , its not as dark as tamiyas but looks better personally , and as usual was easy to use and clean and again it can never be too thinned!
