PE Launch Top Covers for MLRS?

Hi guys!

Just purchased this set from Eduard without knowing exactly what it is. [8D]

Maybe anyone can tell me. Are they a kind of protective cover for the rocket pods? I could not find pictures so far, what color were they? The original dark green? Or something fancy like signal red?

Kind regards from Germany,

Eric

No idea what they are supposed to represent. They don’t look at all like the actual covers on an M26 LPC, which the kit captures well. There are no additional safety covers or anything like that used either. I wouldn’t use them.

It is the rubber covers to protect the rockets from the elements and the rocket would fly out of the tube through the perforated cover just watch any slow motion close up of a MLRS launch. It is similar to the protective covers on the TOW missile tubes.

Yes, there are covers (end caps) that the missile pushes through. They are not rubber though, but hard resin. They do not look lik the ones in the Edauard set though.

OK, thanks for the answers!

I trust Heavy´s expertise and it is also backed by the fact that I cannot find any pics showing these caps. So I think I´ll better not use them. Another 10 bucks down the drain [B)]

Maybe one more question:

This PE Cabin Top features no-slip-surfaces for the MLRS. I want to build an older vehicle in MERDC scheme. Were there already no-slip-surfaces at that time? And if so, are they depicted correctly in the set? Those edged borders look a little strange…

nope there weren’t any nonslip panels on any of the Dragon MLRS’s they did have the tiedowns on them. It was a manufacturing screw-up they did the same thing with their early M1-A1’s which were made around the same time as the MLRS. So you might as well use this set though you’re probably going to load the top with gear anyways.

BTW the reason you never see covers on the launch tubes is because they were already fired so the covers were obliterated.

Hah, found one! And this seems to be a US vehicle

By the uniforms and color of the launcher, it looks like very early '80s. Maybe the original pods or test pods were like that. Actual ones that are fired don’t look like that at all.

I will still not use them, though. Just wanted to add the pic for information. See ya!

Eric

No, they just don’t look at all like the Eduard ones on live pods, or current training pods. The Dragon kit ones are correct. There is no need to change them.
