PBM Mariner kit?

does anyone make a PBM Mariner? im trying to find one for my dad, as his dad was a gunner on PBMs and TBMs during WWII. thanks.

One of the French limited run kit companies (Mach 2) put one out in 1/72 not too long ago- you could probably locate one at an on-line hobby store. It is listed as a PBM-3 and the price is in the $75 range. Hope this helps.

Yep, Mach 2 made one that I bought from rollmodels for a little over $50 (just checked, not there anymore). But as dwblackwell said I’m sure you can find it online. It’s a rough build but I’m 90% done with it and it’s looking pretty good. Feel free to pm me about any particulars with the kit. Also my gramps flew in one during WWII as well! I’d love to swap stories!

Rareplanes produced an excellant vacuumform kit of the Mariner which i would highly recommend for the experienced modeller. A much better kit than the Mach 2 offering. You should also be ableto get it at a much lower price as vacuumforms are out of favor. I also believe that a Mariner was produced by Execuform as a much more basic vacuumform model. Good plans but a lot of scratch building will be required to flesh out this version.

I’m also currently building the Mach 2 kit. It’s okay but requires a lot of patience. I’ve got some pics of the build on the Floats and Flies group build. you can check it out here, it’s towards the bottom.

As ShigginMan said, if you get your hands on one feel free to ask questions.

Their was a vac kit made and I’ve seen it on Ebay. I can’t remember by who and I don’t think it’s made any more.

Sometimes on Ebay you can find the Old Revell kit which i think is around 1/144 or 1/200. One was there just last week.

The Revell PBM is 1/112 scale. If you want a review go here:

The box is different but it is the same kit that is floating around on Ebay from time to time. There is also a Pend Oreille 1/48 PBM-3 and PBM-5 but they sell for about $200.
Here’s a link for a review of the 1/72 Mach 2.

Pend Orielle Models makes a few 1/48 resin versions of the PBM.

They all go for about $199 though.[:(]
