Paper templates (Mask)

Hey all,

My EagleCals decal set came with a paper template for masking a more intricate paint scheme. Can I use paper as a mask? I am worried about the paper soaking up the paint and it bleeding trough.

I will be air brushing with Tamiya Acrylics.

If you don’t recommend paper masks, what do you all recommend I do.

Thanks

John

Hi John,

Not sure what kind of paper EagleCals paper is but I frequently use paper masks. If the paper gets wet while spraying you’re probably putting on too heavy a coat or using too thin a paint. Multiple thin coats and you should be fine with paper masks. For example Post-It notes are often used for masking - even wet newspaper has been used though I have no experience with it.

if you think you will get bleed through onto your paint job, after you cut the paper masks out, lay them out flat and spray them with a coat of Pledge (Future)

now, you have Acrylic sheet masks, sort of like Badger Frisket masks without the adhesive on them

That’s a great tip, Rex. Thanks!

Yes great tips thanks. I was already planning on making some photo copies in case I botch cutting them or something silly like that.

I frequently use Post-It notes and paper towels as masks. I never had a bleeding problem.
