Paper model - 1:50 Polish rescue tug "Halny"

Hello!

Many years ago, when I was a student, the girls didn’t want to do anything to do with me, so I had truckloads of free time, and so when I took on a modelling project, sometimes I went bananas with the detailing… (OK, that tendency might be hard to get rid of…). At that time I already had a several issues of Mały Modelarz 4-5/85 in stock and I wanted to build one at last.

The original is a small rescue ship that is a combination tug/firefighter/diver support vessel used for rescue and salvage work. Several ships of this design were built and some of them were even exported to East Germany. Halny is a heavy mountain wind - something like a Polish counterpart to the Chinook.

It was a complicated model in 1:50 scale and the problem with it was the paper started going yellow whereas the hull and superstructure were supposed to be white:

This left me with no other option as to repaint everything. At some places there were details printed on - like the wiring harness on the open bridge - I had to re-create that detail. There were many parts that were supposed to be made of wire, meaning lots of soldering at times. I also added some photoetche parts (only generic perforated sheets and wire screens) and a crew of four created from 1:50 civilians. They come from a Preiser set and I was able to buy them in a German architecture shop where they were sold individually.

It was a project of about two years with some pauses. And now the photos. I also wouldn’t want to keep it a secret, that I’m posting those with a special thought towards TB! But I hope you all will enjoy them too:

Holy smokes Pawel, that looks amazing! Definitely the best paper model I have seen.

Amazing detail

Wow! Words fail me.

Never saw a paper model turn out that well. Outstanding work! [t$t]

Stay Safe.

Pawel, that is simply stunning!

Words fail me…but “superb” is about as close as I can get.

(Or how about “museum-worthy”???)

Outstanding.

if you hadn’t have told me it was paper , I wouldn’t have believed it , superb .

Hello Gennulmen!

Thanks a lot for your kind words - they mean a a lot to me!

Have a nice day

Looks great!

About twenty years ago I showed up at a contest with a scratchbuilt large Great Lakes ore boat. Got beat by a guy’s paper heavy cruiser. I didn’t feel bad, that cruiser was exquisite!

That’s an impressive piece of work.

Hello!

Don, templar1099 - thanks a lot for your comments, very kind of you!

Don - those heavy ships turn out very nice made out of paper and they can be seriously big, longer than 1 meter (longer than 3 feet) isn’t very hard to find - and a kit like that won’t ruin you financially, just takes a lot of work to complete!

Thanks again and have a nice day

Paweł

See!

That’s what I am talking about. Esoteric subject. Well built, and whoda thunk it was paper? Thanks Pawel.

Hello TB!

Good to have you here on this thread! Like I wrote, I thought you would like this one. Build on - and have a nice day!
