So this is my 1st model I’ve built since I was like 15 (I’m 32 now). Feels good to get back into it…and I can’t wait to start painting and weathering soon!
Great looking build so far. The kit has great details on the hull and turret. Nice PE stuff they give you and the chains. I haven’t seen one of these yet. Q: why is it called the Vorpanzer. I admit I never heard of it before they released it.
I’m pretty sure Vorpanzer just means “spaced armor” in German refering to the extra armor plating spaced from the normal armor on the front of the turrent and hull.
It looks great, and answers some questions I had myself about the way all the chains are supposed to go (the instructions are not clear enough for me).
As someone who’s got this thing still on sprue, I’m wondering whether there are any pitfalls or recommendations about the build? One thing I’m pretty sure I’ll screw up is the crew step, it’s just too fragile. On a related note, how were the tracks?
I didn’t use all the PE parts. This was my 1st time using PE parts. I opted not to use some of the brackets for the tools that were PE and I didn’t make those tiny tiny PE padlocks for the storage bin on the back of the turret either!
About the chains…not sure if their placement is exactly accurate. I had some panzer IV books that I got to reference, but in almost all photos the chains are hard to make out in terms of where they attach…I tried to get as best I could.
Honestly the crew step (which I’m almost done with) is nice because it’s one the the bigger PE parts. The part I’m dreading is doing the curved bend in the PE part.
As for the tracks…haven’t started yet…I’ll let ya know.
I think I’ll airbrush to get a more consistent finish. Which means I gotta buy and airbrush, but I think it’ll be worth the investment in the long run…just gotta convince my wife of that!
Nice…I was going to get the Badger 155 Anthem…I’ve read good things about them. As for compressors I have no idea where to begin…any suggestions there?
As for the compressor, I got a small industrial one, it’s loud for a few secs, then quite for the whole job, or nearly. Lots to choose from and cheaper than the “hobby” ones.
The Panzer IV series of kits from DML are impressive kits, yours is looking sharp! The curved piece you mention for the step is a real pain being 2 pieces, I remember struggling mightily with mine for an hour before I got it to work right. [(-D]
