We’ll need clarification…
What unit are you representing?
What year of the war?
What theater of operations?
Sorry, but the color changes as all of the above changes…
Wholly cow, well. I guess North Africa 1943 ish, or so. Unit , I dont know. maybe 10th Tank division. Other than that, Its up in the air.
Thanks again.
Typically, tanks in North Africa started out with a base coat of plain old Panzer Gray and then were either completely or partially top coated with Sandgelb. Troops also frequently used the local dirt mixed with fuel to create a homemade mud and applied this to their vehicles.
The references I have for the 10th Panzer Division show that many of their vehicles have the topcoat of Sandgelb applied very poorly - with patches of the gray base coat showing through.
Basically, you could go with just a coat of Sandgelb and call it square, or go the whole route with the gray base coat and then overspray it with the Sandgelb. It all depends on the look you are trying to achieve with your build.
Hope this helps…
THanks a bunch, sure do appreciate that info!! Its off to the paint booth now. LOL
Like Foster said. If you’re painting the Pz II F/G in early Afrika Korps colors use the Dark Grey, later on in the campaign all tanks received the Dark Yellow (Sandgelb)basecoat. If you’re doing markings for the 10th Pz Div. I suggest you go for the Dark Yellow. If I’m not mistaken, I believe the 10 Pz. Div joined PanzerArmee Afrika during the Tunisia campaign in North Africa.
