panzer color

What color did the Germans use for the interior of their panzers ???

Flyguy

According to the Squadron/Signal Panzer Colors 1 book that I have it all depends on the type of vehicle. Closed top vehicles ( tanks, assault guns, etc) were painted with a light tan buff color. Open top vehicles ( artillery, personnel carriers, etc) were painted in the base exterior color. Hope this helps

Right now I’m building the Academy Tiger I with interior. I am making my own color using a flat white-green-tan mix. I’ll tell you the ratios as soon as the color gets right.

I am not entirely sure but I think on some German tanks the floors were left in the primer color. Something to do with being able to tell up and down. Not sure how accurate that is though.

Check out toadmans tank pictures. He has photos of a panther that is being restored. There are plenty of interior photos in color! Greg

Sorry I didn’t explain in detail. the off white color is everywhere inside except in the following areas;

  • Below the sponson line is Panzer Gray
  • Turret components (sight, etc.) are black
  • Primer red in the engine area from the firewall back
  • All the other components on the inside of the hull (tools, radios, etc) are whatever color they are supposed to be

The lower interior hull color is not Panzer Grey, but Grey-Green, RAL 7033, which can look a little more blue than green, depending on the lighting and other characteristics of the image, such as this look at the Littlefield Panther A;

Here is a little rundown on panzer interiors;

Thanks to all of you - your replies have been very helpful . Sorry to be so late with my appreciation , but I got sidetracked to a ship model. At my age it’s hard to keep a one - track attention span. Jack
