There seems to be quite a bit of kits posted so Ill grab the numbers and see if I have any of those kits at work. I will know toorrow Thx fellas… This will be my first german Tank.
Although the site is geared toward Michael Wittman; it lists the Order of battle for the 101st SS Panzer Battalion and the 4th and 13th companies of the LSSAH Panzer Regiment.
I finally found a turret number for Karl (Rolf) Mobius.
You bet! Hermesminiatures and I have two posts set up at the very beginning of this thread. The first post lists the basic rules and framework for this build, the roster of the people who have signed up, a list of recommended reading and references (including some online resources). The 2nd post lists many of the Panzer Aces and the tanks they crewed, as well as a list of kits that are available.
Feel free to recommend books or other good online resources and I’ll add them to the first page. Let us know which tank you’d like to make and who’s it was, post pics, chat, share and most of all, enjoy! [:D]
I know some of us are chomping at the bit to get started, so I’ve changed the dates to January 2007 to Spring 2008. I won’t be starting mine for at least a few more weeks, as I have a couple of projects I want to finish and get off the bench.
I’m going to build my JagdTiger first, so the search begins for some good photo’s of Albert Ernst’s JagdTiger. [8D]
Right On! My first Group Build! After reviewing the list I orginally wanted to to either Ernst Barkmann or Albert Ernst being that Ernest is my name! However I see that those have already been picked by others so I will choose another Ace. Unfortunately my on-hand resources are limited as I just got back into modelling a few months ago. I foresee many trips to the LHS or Barnes & Noble!!
I don’t see it in this thread but what “rules” are there? Are aftermarket parts allowed? How about kitbashing? Can we build into a diorama?
Anyway I hope to begin soon and contribute what I can to this GB!!
That end date, just like the pirate’s code [oX)] is more of a guideline… heh heh. Our purpose is to have fun and learn about the panzer aces and tie it into our favorite hobby, building models. I put in the end date more so we could have a timeframe of some sort.
Edit: Kept the original end time frame of Spring 2008
Ah, I’m glad you mentioned that. We put this GB together so quickly I simply overlooked the other rules. OOB, aftermarket, kit bash, diorama… it all works for me as our focus is on learning about the Panzer Aces, the history, the actions and all the other good stuff… and to do it while doing our favorite hobby.
I have a fitness training session with my trainer, so when I get back from that I’ll include the guildlines I just mentioned on the first post.
If you want to do Albert Ernst’s JagdTiger, I’ll be more than happy to build mine from another Panzer Ace… I don’t want to be too greedy since I’m also buidling his Hornisse/Nashorn. [:)]
Thanks Hermesminiatures! I couldn’t decide which of these to build, but I noticed that there are no King Tiger aces represented yet so I’ve decided to do Leutnant Freiherr Von Rosen’s Normandy King Tiger (Porsche). Looks like he did quite a bit of damage to the Americans in July of '44. I’m going to order “The Combat History of schwere Panzer-Abteilung 503” by Fritz Steinhardt. Its pricey but I’m sure it will be worth it. Do you think DMLs KT # 6312 will be the right kit for this? I have one in my stash.
BTW, this will be the first King Tiger I will build! Wish me luck (fingers crossed)!
I was having a good sortout today in my model room and found that I have 3 of Dragon’s Jagdpanther’s so aswell as doing the Puma I’ll also be doing Harmann Bix’s Jagdpanther if that’s OK.
I should get started on the Jagdpanther pretty soon as I’m struggling to find a Dragon Puma at my LHS’s and I dont want to do another Italeri one.[banghead]
My research on Gerhard Bremer is going quiet well…I’ll put a file together as soon as I have enough info and will pass it onto anyone who need’s it.
Sooo after checking my inventory these are the kits Ihave availible…

Ok, I updated the end date to say Spring 2008, updated the roster for Comet, psychoblue23 and bufflehead. I also added the blurb stating that you can build straight out of the box, or use any aftermarket goodies, PE, resin etc, and of course diorama’s would be really cool.
I haven’t tried a diorama yet, but I think it might be fine to do a JagdTiger as seen in these photo during the surrender at Iserlohn.
That is one Big Boy there espins 1 !! When I was a teen I would stare at the little picture of the Jagdtiger on the side of my Tamiya boxes and marvel at what a brute it was! In my mind it was the ULTIMATE tank! I wanted to build one so badly but they never had one at my LHS 30 yrs ago. I can’t wait to see your reproduction!
