Italeris 38t. 1/35. Fun little build. Had its moments but its almost finished.
I had to modify the periscope. The machineguns are lengths of heavy guage wire that were wrapped with fine wire. The kit guns were horrible.
The main gun was turned from plastic on a miniature lathe I built for my drill press. The suspension was scratchbuilt and there were some gap problems. But all in all I liked this build. Now just to finish it. Still has some stowage that needs to be put on, the tracks and then a simple display base.
Tigerman: For now I’m going to use the kit supplied vinyl. All of the aftermarket tracks for this kit are $30 and up. Kind of a quandry…do I put tracks costing twice as much as the kit on it? I haven’t ruled it out completely but I’ll mount the vinyls so that if I change my mind later I can. Maquette produces some aftermarket tracks but before I buy those just want to see what they look like. (They may not be better than the vinyls but certainly cheaper and more palatable)
Robert: I stared at it for an hour today…Good job. You win on that round [;)]
Soon as its finished I’ll post some more pics.
I have the Maquette version of this kit as well and I want to build it after the Sherman build. Try out some new stuff.
As much as I love the exhaust, a couple of conversations have left me with the feeling I shouldn’t have rusted it that much. I think the next one I’ll leave in better shape. The concensus seems to be that the germans were pretty good about keeping them wiped down and the rust to a minimum.
