Panther Stripe Camouflage?

Building a 48 scale panther at the moment and will paint it in this paint scheme if I can get enough info on it. Any help appriciated

I think these are Panther G’s (late), please correct me if I’m wrong.

Andrew

That’s a late-war camo scheme used at the end of the war on the Panther Ausf G late. If you want, I have a very small WIP in one of my mags about someone who built this vehicle with that exact camo. So if you want it I can scan the pages out of the mag and send them your way.

And I don’t see zimm on it… hard to tell by looking at the picture. I recall not all Panther A has zimm but I always thought Panther G has zimm? I have both kits from DML and they don’t come with zimm…

I don’t think their was zimm because these vehicles came off the production line late in the war. Probably late1944, because that’s when the factories were told to leave vehicles in the red primer and that’s the base color of the camo scheme seen above(first post).

It is a late G. The camoflage is not based on red-primer. The order stated to stop the overall painting of dark yellow before the camoflage was applied. The 3 colors of dark yellow, dark green, and dark brown were still applied, they were just applied over the primer and not over a dark yellow base coat.

mg.mikael, I found a little more info last night which suggests that the cam was applied only to the side and not to hull and turrent tops if yours suggests otherwise I love to see it other dont worry as what I found includes color plates.

deafpanzer as mg.mikael states zimm was stopped in August (September?) 1944

Bronto, I was wondering the colors as of the two different colour images I found one suggested the red and not brown but it didnt look right to me (looks nice not right)

Sent you a PM.

Michael, PM returned.

Andrew- Many thanks! Didn’t meant to hijack your thread but when I saw the picture you posted I had to ask. So basically it is more likely that there were more zimmed Panther A than Panther G because more G was produced after August '44?

Thanks again… I have been watching your threat on 1/48 kit. Good luck!

I’ve seen other pics/plates of this and other Panthers in the unit and it is a late G w/o zimm…my refs state that it is a scheme based on red-primer, dark yellow and whitewash…

Well thats certainly confusing LOL. One picture I have is dated Feb '45 so it would be the right time period, and a little thought would suggest a red/yellow/white scheme from the pics I have. This is just so confusing. Would certainly be happy to see/hear more of this info Manny.
