panzer is German for “tank”…interestingly enough, a quick glance thru references will show minimal external stowage on Panthers, as compared to StuG’s, Mk III’s, etc…perhaps the turret traverse was the bigger concern, and the Panther did have two stowage bins on the rear…
Well,
Panthers and Panzers are NOT the same. When the German realized that their Panzer IV is being crushed by the Russion T-34, the German then made the Panther tank with a completely new infrastucture and turret and gun. In a sence the Panther is the German answer to the T-34.
The Panther is also knows as Panzer V.

You know, you’re right. I’ve yet to see a pic of a heavily loaded Panther, with any kind of crew gear stowed on the outside.
…you will also find very few pics of heavily-ladden Tigers, for that matter…my theory is that the cat family had rather flush-mounted turrets which neccisitated good clearance for turret-travers…in addition, by the time the cats were fielded Germany was on the defense, so you didn’t see heavily-ladden tanks reminicent of '41 - '42 when armor crews had to carry more baggage longer distances when they were in Blitzkrieg mode…just my opinion…
I bet their somewhat limited operational range, due to their gaz-guzzling habits, might allow the baggage train to catch up to them at refueling points, but I’m just guessing here.
…interesting theory…but the days of baggage trains catching up with the Blitzkrieg of 39-42 were long gone by the time these cats were fielded…in fact, the baggage trains probably, in some cases, were overtaken by their own tanks in the retreat…
Hrm I’m currently working on a StuG II Ausf G, got any pics of it with some stowage? Not sure what to put on it other then making some bedrolls and such. LHS is going out of business and has some stuff on sale maybe he’s got some stowage on sale as well. This will leave one LHS on this side of town and one on the other and thats it. Very sad. the one going under is successful but the landlord sold the property and the new landlords want to develope it. Sucks too this LHS has been in business since 1903 I believe. It’s a good shop, has been a good landmark, and alot of the kids in that area will have far less to do now.

LHS’s are dropping like flies. The one I patronized as a teen – Massie’s, on Live Oak Avenue in lovely Arcadia California – switched almost entirely to craft-crap in the 90’s and Warrick’s “Hobby Superstore,” self-styled, here in Plantation has almost entirely dropped their static scale model selection since early last winter. They were a charter subscriber in FSM, I believe, but dropped their ad there about October 2006.
And to think I once wanted to run an LHS myself! (Who among us didn’t?)
StuG IIIs frequently bore field-applied racks over the engine deck for stowage. I think it’s Eduoard who sells a PE version of it, but it would be easy to make with Plastistruct. Pile everything you can think of the four soldiers would need for a week or more!
I for one hate to see the LHS go, even though the prices can be high on standard american auto kits, if we lose them we end up with nothing but the corporate conglomerates running the show. All R/C will tunr into Nikko and Tyco garbage. Model building will also generally stop as Walmart caters it’s models to small children into the gangsta scene. Just stuff for OOB builds, and whatever subjects THEY think you should be modeling will kill it. I’m hoping in the next year or two to open a shop up out here.
I just bought a Verlinden SdKfz 251 Stowage Set. Since I have a halftrack I’m working on as well. No reason I can’t use a few of those parts on the StuG.
