I’ve bought 3 Tank kits
and to say its been a long time since I did one of these
So I would like to know if theres any aftermarket stuff
and any Idea’s on colour schemes

Go first to Greatmodels and scroll down to the search button. Do a search for Panther detail sets or something like that. I know Aber, Eduard, and Verlinden have nice PE sets. heres GM:http://www.greatmodels.com/

Well, wish you’d have asked us first, because the the Dragon kit is light-years ahead. I’d definately go with some pe grilles and many have claimed the turret is all wrong. It is one of Tamiya’s older kits, so there is alot upgrading to do. You’ll Want some AM zimmerit unless you decide to do it yourself.
I used the Verlinden set… it comes with EVERYTHING you need I think… resin parts, PE parts… you might still have to get some grilles for it though, but they’re cheap enough
The thing is that I think most AM parts are made for the Panther Gs from Tamiya, which are way much better in quality. This ausf A is one of their much older releases with problems on the hull and dimension. I guess you can always get a set of PE made from the Dragon ausf A by Aber or Eduard and have most of them fitted to the kit without much of a problem. If I recall correctly, there was an FSM article in recent (within 3 years) issues regarding updating the Tamiya Ausf A Panther. It was among that set of issues doing a ton of Panther themed article, like a kit round up and all.

So with tank kits the best ones are Dragon ,
this plus the other kits i got was an impulse buy ( plus they were cheap)
I got a Trumpeter T54( 1951) kit
plus a Tamiya Tiger 1sd.kfz.181 late version I’m looking forward to doing these
so these 3 wil be my practice kits
I’ll keep an eye out forthe Dragon ones [:D]

I’m looking at a Panther G for an upcoming GB, and have been going through a similar process to you, ie finding out what AM stuff is out there.
Best bet, log onto Hannants’ site and just do a search on 1/35 Panthers, which is what I did. There’s a lot out there for the A models, including the Tamiya kit you’ve got.

the only thing they don’t have is the Turret [:(]

Do you guys really think the DML Panther is better then the Tamiya kits?..even the steel wheel version? I am not expert, i am new to AFV modelling also but I am hooked. I bought the Tamiya kit and it seems less parts, nice vinyl tracks, DML kit is not a G (would like to see DML release Panther G’s in the box form like their new Tiger kits) and the side skirts come in funny they say styrene peices. The metal barrel and photo etch in the DML Panther kits is nice though.
The Tamiya Panther Ausf G is a great kit (1990s kit)
the Dragon Panther Ausf A is a great kit (late 1990s maybe 2000 kit)
the Tamiya Ausf A kit shown above is a kit full of mistakes its a very old kit (1970s i think)

Dragon’s panther G with steel wheels (command version) was okay of a kit though. Taken mostly from the old gunze sanyo super kit. The details are all right and the fitment is okay for a low price kit. The big problem I have with it is that the indy tracks has deeply sunk pin marks on the exterior of them. For that I 'd go with the tamiya kit cuz even their vinyl tracks has a lot more details and the molding for the kit is a lot crispier. Plus the 4 sets of IR scopes from the steel wheel version. You can’t beat that.
Thanks for all your advise and recommendations. I do really like all the Dragon kits, how can you beat what you get in the box, aluminum barrel, photo etch etc. If you had to buy a Tamiya kit and then all the AM stuff, wow, that would be expensive hobby.
Only thing about Dragon is the tracks, they scare me to death, that is why I lean towards Tamiya. Also find DML has much better options and details, but the celan up is unreal, 4-6 attachment points on most of the parts. I can put a Tamiya kit together in a full day, not DML.
