Panther G questions - 1/72 replacement tracks

I did a dumb thing. I picked up the Hasegawa 1/72 steel wheel panther G. The vinyl tracks look more like bobcat tracks than german tank tracks. [B)] Anyone have any suggestions for replacements?

The kit isn’t great but it looks like a panther. I already read the review at ontheway.com Another flaw of the kit is missing the armor plate “keys”. They will have to be scribed in. Also what about zim on this one???

Roll Models carries the Part photo etched Panther tracks made for the Revell Panther but usable on the Hasegawa kit. It is set #72086.

Eduard makes a zimmerit set for this kit as well. I’ve got the Hasegawa version (#30025) that comes with the Eduard PE zimmerit set. Rather nice zimmerit set. Here is a link to reviews of the Hasegawa Panthers: http://www.ontheway.us/reviews/Hasegawa/HasPanthersPrev.htm

Zimmerit was discontinued by the time the very few late G (steel wheel) were fielded. Better skip the zim idea…

Thanks Rob and Steve. Thats what I figured on the zim. Since they couldn’t afford rubber on the wheels then zim would be a no go too.

Actually the "steel " wheel was rubberized on the inside rim. The measure was not really due to shortages since the Germans had been using synthetic rubber since the late thirties. It was simply an improvement measure to keep the ride quality of rubber dampening and simultaneously protecting the rubber rim fro longer life.

Oh, and you are very welcome sir…

Steve
