PaK-40 shells

Hey all

I’ve got the DML Sd. Kfz. 251/22 Ausf. D and the instructions do not say how to paint the shell heads. Any color photos or links to reference sites are much appreciated.

I imagine you can get away with painting the shell heads a steel or gunmetal color.

I was thinking flat black, but I hate critics[yuck][tdn]

This is how AFV Club depicts them. I believe, as today, different colors are for different types of rounds, i.e. HE, AP, HEAT, etc.

Thanks Heavy Arty, its much appreciated

I think you need not paint them, they look OK unpainted :

No they don’t. They look unpainted. You should never leave a model piece unpainted. The brass casing looks good, but the shell end looks like unpainted metal or resin or whatever it is. They would look much better painted in the colors shown above as the actual shells were.

I have to agree with Gino. The shell end should be painted the proper color for the type of shell you are depicting.

Thanks guys, I will paint my shells now!

Late war Pak 40 shells also appeared made out of steel.
