I am wanting to try out the Vallejo Mecha flat and gloss acrylic varnishes.
Since they will be shipped from some random warehouse during winter months / weather, will the Varnish be ok? The same question regarding acrylic paints.

If you’re worried about paint freezing up, no. I’ve ordered paint during winter months in the past and had no issues. I usually let it sit at room temperature once I receive them in the mail.
Thanks BlackSheepTwoOneFour
Can’t say for absolute, positive sure but I’ve recieved lots of paint and other liquids by USPS, UPS, FEDEX, etc in the winter and like Sheep haven’t had a problem yet.
After I posted the question I sorta had a “doh“ moment. Hobby shops and craft stores get paint shipments all year round. I imagine word would have gotten out of a certain brand of paint did not fair well being shipped in cold weather.
Good point. I never considered that either! [:(DD][:P]
Really I only buy my Stynylrez primer online because we don’t seem to have a local outlet. That I have shipped any time of year, never had a problem. I’m getting low too, so will be ordering soon, probably in Feb.
What about Microscale Industries Micro Flat and Micro Gloss? Anyone have issues with ordering that in the winter? Where I live forecast lows for the next week are -23 Celsius.
Wondering about Mr. Finishing Surfacer 1500 as well.
I suppose as mentioned, hobby stores receive stock shipments, so should be fine. Flogging a dead horse?
Thanks,
Mark

[/quote]On the contrary about beating a dead horse. It’s for the better of the community to bring this thread back to the surface because I’m sure there’s a few folks out there who are wondering the same thing. I know I have because -23 Celcius is -9 degrees Fahrenheit around these parts .
This topic has come up with a buddy of mine too. He won’t order any paints on-line during the winter. I don’t do a lot of on-line ordering but my opinion is that it was probably shipped from the manufacturer during the cold months so one more time being in transit shouldn’t matter.
I had a chat with my LHS about a month ago. Asked them if there is any special packaging their suppliers do to protect shipments of this nature, such as styrofoam. They said no, they do not and they actually only place orders for paints and such from April through September.
Cheers,
Mark
It would only be a problem if the acrylic paint froze
Thanks MisterMeester. That’s good information to know.
I know for a fact that if your Stynylrez freezes, it’s done. Even if after it thaws, it’s apparently sludge forever. I am cautious about shipping paints and cements in extreme weather, either to avoid the Fudgsicle problem or the pressurization of solvent containers (and subsequent leaking).
I ordered Microscale’s Micro Gloss and Micro Flat online a couple months ago and both arrived with a solid core inside and some liquid surrounding said core. I tried “melting” it in hot water, but to no avail. It was done. Having said that, both a water based so, my bad. When I say “and such” this is the kind of thing I was referring to.
Went to my LHS to get some, but they were out of stock. That’s what led to the chat I had with them.
Long story, short, for the most part I’ve decided to just play it safe. Compiling a list for a Springtime online order.
I would agree, however, that anything that isn’t water based should be fine.
Cheers,
Mark
Of course theres no control over what and when they received it,that being said I never got a bad jar of paint from a store.
I used to order these special chocolate cookies from Bergers in Baltimore,on the site they said that they werent responsible for their condition during summer months.
This topic and discussion has been very enlightening and helpful. I think that I’ve saved myself some money and frustration. Thank you to everyone who participated.
