Painting Tracks

Hi Guys,
I bought a LVT-(A)1 “Alligator”, made by Italeri. I washed the track in warm soapy water, then let it dry before I started. I painted one half of the vynal track using Testors Steel colour (#1180). I let this dry overnight, about twelve hours. When I went back to it, I found the paint cracked and flaking off in chips.
[What did I do wrong? And how can I fix it? Please help me guys. I will not continue until I hear from you
One more technical question. I think you know what this track looks like, it’s a cursive letter “M” on top of some kind of a pad. Should I paint the whole track the steel colour.
Thank you, Charley [:p]

First of all Charley … welcome to FSM. Good to have you join us here in the Armour Forum.

I think part of your problem is the quality of paint that you have purchased. The small Testor’s bottles are IMO a terrible waste of money and shelf space.
I would recommend a bottle of Tamiya or Model Master Gun-metal for this job. Paint the entire track then a bit of dry brushing with steel and rust to really make the edges stand out an give the track a good weathered look.

use Model masters and tamiya paints on the tracks. they work great for me.

PS welcome to the forum and the darkside

Welcome Charley. Good luck on the Alligator.

Hey Charley
When I responded to your e-mail, I was a bit confusing with my answer.

The Alligator tracks are all metal. No rubber pads.
