All,

I’ve been a big fan of Humbrol paints for many years but I just recently found they make gloss, satin and matte finishing coats. Picked up a bottle of matte coat from Squadron the other day. It says to thin/clean with “White Spirit” (aka Stoddard Solvent). I’ve never heard of this particular solvent but, in researching it, it doesn’t seem to be available in the states.

So…question…has anyone used the Humbrol finish coats and, if so, what have you thinned/clean with?

Or, does anyone know a supplier of white spirit?

Either mineral spirits or paint thinner will work for thinning Humbrol paints.

Not sure. This doesn’t appear to be an enamel-based paint. It’s some kind of lacquer I think.

As far as I’m aware, White Spirit = Mineral spirits = “Stoddard Solvent” = Turpentine Substitute

I’m not aware of any laquer Humbrol paints. I love those little tins and have always used thinner to thin the enamels. They brush on beautifully without any brush marks.

Brush or airbrush. Thin suitably when airbrushing using Cellulose thinners.

Brushes: Use Cellulose thinners. Airbrushes:Flush through using cellulose thinners.

Cellulose thinners = lacquer thinners
