could some one please tell me what would be a good color to paint engines on world war II aircraft, more importantly German Aircraft, and also should engine blocks be primed?,and what would be the best way of painting?brush painting? or Air brushing? thanks!!![:D]
There’s a few different ways of painting an engine. I usually spray the whole thing flat black, then brush paint the crank case whatever colour it needs to be. Then I dry brush the cylinders with some silver paint. Or you can just paint them silver first and give them a wash later. It’s up to you whether you prime or not. I usually don’t bother, but some people probably do.
hope this helps.
There are a whole bunch of sites on the web that should have color pics of the engines you want to model - they’re usually quite a number of different colors - due to the fact that the various components are made from different materials and are manufactured using pifferent processes - like sand casting, billet machining, sheet metal stamping, - etc.
Each component usually has a different look - and then it might or might not have been painted.
When in doubt - ask one of the pros here on the forum - there’s usually someone out there who can answer ANY question you might have.
