I’m looking for ideas on painting a 1/144 scale airline model white. In the past I’ve used Floquil Reefer White. But with this upcoming project I thought I would explore other ideas. Are primers preferred? This particular model is molded white.
The grey primer bit is important, first because the white plastic that airliner kits are often moulded in can be translucent, and second, so that you can see where you’ve covered suficiently, and where you haven’t.
You also need a pure, as opposed to a creamy, white.
I have ten completed airliners in my collection. The oldest finished model is at least 12 years old. One thing about using White Enamel. Over time it has a tendency to get a yellowish cast to it. To totally prevent this from happening, add a very small drop off Gloss Blue to the bottle of Gloss White buy just dipping a toothpick in the bottle of Blue and let a tiny drop, drop in the White. Mix thoroughly till no Blue is visible.Just a drop about the size of a pinhead will be sufficient. you’ll never have to worry about the White getting a yellowish cast to it. I believe the Blue has something to do with light refraction on the White. Maybe someone out there with the technical expertise on paint would know. Anyways, all my airliners are as pure White as the day I airbrushed them. Naturally this can’t be done using a rattle can. I’ve used this system for all of them and it does work. No yellowing.
Hi! I allways use Krylon sprycans decanted to my airbrush, and I never had any problems with the white, and best of all it´s cheap… one 2 dollar can will lat several models.
