Pretty sure they were mostly overall sand. I can’t find any referances to confirm this though. I’m sure there were some in 3-tone NATO camo too. Either would be correct.

Okay, I won’t go against HeavyArty, he’s spot-on in most everything. Just from personal experience, if the AAVs came from the MEU, then they’ll be in the green scheme. If they rolled off the MPS ships from Diego Garcia, then they’ll be the sand scheme. I don’t have any photos or refs to back this up, but that just seems to click in my brain for some reason.
I can’t recall what USMC units went into Somalia and if they were sent direct from the states to mate up with gear, or if the MEU on float was sent in there.
I probably just muddied the waters for you, sorry.
