In your experience, do you need to strip a model before you repaint?
If so, how if painted with acrylics?
I use glass cleaner with ammonia for acrylic

I have to agree with crown r n7. I suppose you could try over-painting, but you would have to prep the surface to give the paint something to adhere to, just like auto-body work. This means sanding, removing old decals and having the problem of breaking off those parts (like landing gear, antenna, flaps, balances, etc.) that stick out. Better just to remove the old paint, IMO.
Disassembling the model if you can do so safely is also recommended.
I don’t have any decals on. I’m basically right in the middle of the painting stage of the model, so no extraneous parts have been added yet. There doesn’t look too be any issues with the paint affecting kit detail either. Sorry for the confusion!
Hmmm, well that does make a difference! [:D] I know many modelers would go ahead and strip the existing paint. Acrylic is easier to remove than enamel, and 90% isopropyl alcohol will do the trick. Still, people paint over a primer coat, so if the paints are similar and not enamel over acrylic, you can probably get away with it. You might consider a second primer coat if the colors will be very different.

For me it depends on what is wrong with the previous paint. If it is just too dull for glossy finish, or if it has some minor dust specks or whatever, I will sand paint with extra fine paper and recoat. Only if it is really bad will I remove it, or if sanding would obscure some really fine detail.
