i’m about to paint an F-15 strike eagle two seater…was wondering what types of paint schemes the USAF would use in conjunction with low visibility decals? I’m aware Italari recommends modelmaster gunship grey overall…but was curious if other choices were available…I’m gonna build this one as a fighter/bomber…
As far as I’m aware the only scheme for the Strike Eagle in active service is the over all Gunship Grey. There may have been experimental schemes, but the Eagle guys here will have to answer that.
If you want to do something different, you could model the early prototype A/C in the “Lizzard” sheme of FS36081,34102,34092. Other than that, you’ll have to do a “what if”.
If you want a different looking Eagle build an Israeli F-15I Raam. It is based on the F-15E Strike Eagle but is in desert camo. Not Sure what the differences between it and a standard F-15E other than paint but it sure looks cool. If you have a fighter version F-15C/A look at a few photos of Japanese F-15Js. They were painted in some intersting schemes as aggressors. Once again don’t know how a F-15J differs from an A/C but they look cool also.
Here is a Link to some photos of some F-15I http://idfmodelling.free.fr/raam.html
It has quite of color schemes…looks as if the only paint scheme applied to an E model is overall gunship grey (FS36118). If you go that route, lighten it a bit to compensate for “scale effect”, as well as natural fading that the real aircraft sees.
It’d be fun to do an F-15 in 3-color wraparoun SEA camo (dark tan/dark green/medium green). All sorts of “what ifs”.
What great reference material you provided me with. I especially love the huge strike eagle phoot on the tarmack (Thanks roadkill) The Israel pics were great as well. They really are a sweet camo. I think I’ll stick to the modern gunship gray scheme overall. It looks good with the low vis decals as well. Thanks for all your input everyone…It was very generous and considerate of you to spend the time.
