Were the barrels of german antitank and anitaircraft guns painted or left a natural finish?
I am doing the tamiya pak 34/35. It appears to have a painted barrel with the breech left a metal finish.
I am also building the italerai flak 43. The instruction sheet appears to show a painted barrel. The artwork on the box shows a metal finish.
So far my research has been inconclusive on these two weapons.
The Italerei Tiger Im building a natural metal barrel but I havnt seen any reference pics showing this, here are some examples. http://www.alanhamby.com/paint.html
Have 2 pix of German anti-tank gun taken in a museum in Holland. Its painted in 3 col. camo, only shiny bits are working breech mechanism, regards John.
A couple of weeks ago I went to the Australian War Memorial where there was a 88mm Flak gun on display, it’s barrel had been painted in a camo scheme complete with kill markings. Hope this helps.
