Hi all,
I’m helping my 11 year old build a 1/24 Revell 69 Z/28 Camaro and need some advise regarding paint.
-
We are going to finish with Model Master Grape Pearl Enamel. Do you recommend putting down a base coat of white?
-
Any advise on the thinning ratio for metallic enamels?
Thanks in advance!
I think a coat of silver may be a better choice.Hre is my '69 Z!
philo426,
Thanks for the tip. Your '69 Z looks great!
Thanks!Hope to see in-progress reports on your Z/28 build!
I would suggest using the white base to make the color pop more. As to the thinning ratio, 3 or 4 parts thinner to 1 of paint sounds thin, but will lay down great. With metallics, be sure to alternate directions, lengthwise one coat, up / down on the next to avoid the dreaded tiger stripes. Several coats are much better than fewer thick ones, just like aircraft. Follow the grape up with some Boyd’s Ultra High Gloss (I think that’s what they call it now) clear and you’ll have a ride to be proud of.
Tiki Kat,
Followed your advise and it work like a charm. My 11 year old has a grin[:)] from ear to ear. Thanks for the tip.
Glad to hear the paint job worked out and especially that you have an 11 year old who is interested in models! My son and I built together until he discovered girls (about 16), haven’t got him back yet! Best wishes!
Agentg,
We’ll try to get something posted soon.
Tiki Kat,
You mean I’ve got only a year with my 15 year old, lol. I know it’s going to happen but he’s a very accomplished modeler already. He’ll come back around some day as I did!
Thanks
