Paint or clear coat?

I have a 1:16 scale Mincraft 1931 Ford Panel Van I am about to start building. It is injected in several colors. I am wondering if it is better to paint over those colors with the same color paint or just clear coat them?

Depending on how realistic you want it to look. Me, I paint everything. Plastic has a lot of flaws in it. Paint also gives you many options. Clearcoating colored plastic makes it look like a toy. Painting makes it look like a replica. So, you have to ask yourself, what will i be using this kit for? A toy for my son or display model.

It is going to be a display model. I would like it as realistic as possible. I only hope I am up to the task at hand.

I’m sure you’ll do just fine! Good luck!

A tip to make your colors more uniform, prime everything with white primer first, unless your using a very dark paint (black) then just use gray, but it will help the paint all stay the same shade.

I paint everything as well. Another reason, on top of all the good ones given, is you can’t do touch-ups when you clearcoat only - for marks left when removing from sprue, sanding, etc.

You could use a clear (colorless) plastic primer from a rattle can for the bodywork. I tend to use a standard plastic primer from Halfords.

I never knew this product existed. Now to find it locally

Thanks for the help.
