paint for white metal

Hello:
I’m starting my first “white metal” kit. What’s the best type of paint to use for a high gloss finish? (I’m planning to use a Badger 155).
Thanks so much!
Ian

I’d go for an enamel paint, maybe a lacquer. Acrylics don’t shine as well and I don’t think they would adhere as well to the metal. that in mind I’d prime the metal if possible even with the enamels and such… just to make sure. As far as shine, maybe go to the auto topic and ask them what they do to get their cars to shine… I am sure they have 100’s of tips!!!

Assuming its an auto kit, getting a clean smooth surface is essential. White metal can have minute pits that must be eliminated. I always sanded them down with progressively fine grit & polished with extremely fine steel wool. After a thorough cleaning, a fine grain enamel or lacquer primer should be sprayed, followed by light sanding. Color coat can be gloss enamel or lacquer, but I prefer lacquer because it can be rubbed out to a high gloss finish.

Thanks for the info!
