Just a quick question on pioneer gear. Namely, do you afix the gear to the tank before any painting is done (painting the shovel and axe handles after the tools have been glued to the hull), or do you do basic painting of both the tank and pioneer gear separately and then attach the gear prior to weathering? I would just like to hear what is the recommended way to attack this. Thanks for sharing your opinons.

dunno about ne1 else, but any gear like that i paint/weather before securing it to the hull
I keep the pioneer tools off the tank, and paint them separately. I’ll paint the straps at the same time I basecoat the vehicle. Then I’ll attach to the vehicle, and weather them together for consistency.
I follow the same method as the others above. Left off till vehicle is painted, paint separately, attach after painting.
Thank you to those who had a minute to help me out. I assumed that painting before attaching would be the way to go, but I have seen numerous pictures posted of “works in progess” where the tracks and pioneer gear are already (seemingly) glued onto an unpainted tank. Anyway, painting the tank and gear separately and then attaching for weathering is definitely what makes the most sense to me. Thanks, again.

You know, I do see a lot of those in-progress shots where all the gear and tracks are attached, and personally, I have no idea how these people do it. I’m fairly young with a steady hand, and I would have problems painting some things like that, so I’m at a loss as to how these masters do it.
